Wahbi Khazri ( Arabic وهبي خزري, DMG Wahbī Ḫazrī ; * February 8, 1991 in Ajaccio ) is a Tunisian football player who also has French citizenship . The offensive player is currently under contract with the French first division club AS Saint-Étienne and is the captain of the Tunisian national football team .
Career
societies
A native of Corsica , Khazri began his career in the youth of Jeunesse Sportive Ajaccio. In 2003 he switched to the youth team at SC Bastia . He played his first competitive game for Bastia's first team on February 20, 2009 against SC Amiens . He scored his first goal on March 13, 2009 when he won 1-0 with Bastia against Montpellier . In 2010 he was relegated to the 3rd French league with Bastia, only to be promoted again as first table a year later. In the 2011/12 season he reached 1st place in Ligue 2 with Bastia and thus rose to Ligue 1 . Until 2014 he played for SC Bastia and scored 31 goals in 171 league games. In the summer of 2014 he then moved to Girondins Bordeaux and signed a four-year contract.
On January 30, 2016, Khazri moved to AFC Sunderland for a transfer of around 12 million euros and signed a four-and-a-half-year contract.
At the end of August 2017, he was awarded to Stade Rennes and returned to Ligue 1 for one season .
In the summer of 2018 Khazri changed for 7 million euros to the French giants AS Saint-Etienne and signed a four-year contract after the Sunderland AFC in the Football League One is staying.
National team
At the end of 2012, Khazri was nominated for the first time in the team of Sami Trabelsi , who coached the Tunisian national team. He took part in the 2013 African Championship ; Tunisia were eliminated in the group stage. At the African Cup of Nations 2015, Khazri lost 2-1 with the national team in the quarter-finals against Equatorial Guinea . He also took part in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and scored his first goal in an Africa Cup of Nations in the third group game, the 4-2 win over the Zimbabwean national soccer team . The team was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Burkina Faso 2-0.
With the national team, he qualified for the 2018 World Cup , where he led his team as team captain. In the second round match against Belgium , he scored his first World Cup goal in a 5-2 defeat in stoppage time. Also in the last group game against Panama Khazri scored a goal to win the 2-1 . This was the Tunisians' second World Cup victory after 1978 .
