Leonor da Silveira Moreno de Lemos Gomes (born October 28, 1970 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese actress .

Life

Her maternal grandmother came from France and her father was a doctor. She graduated from the French school Lycée Français Charles Lepierre in Lisbon and studied international relations at the University of Lusíada (graduated in 1995). As early as 1987, she had accompanied a friend to a casting for Manoel de Oliveira's The Cannibals , in which she also took part in the casting on the advice of Oliveira's assistant Jaime Silva. She was selected and thus began her acting activities. In the following years she played a wide variety of roles, mostly for Oliveira, occasionally for other directors. However, she avoided becoming a professional actress. She became an assessor in the Ministry of Culture, where since 1999 she headed the coordination office for the activities of the state film institute ICAM (Instituto do Cinema, Audiovisual e Multimédia, renamed Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual in 2007 ). In 2005 she became Vice President of ICAM.

She has occasionally served on juries at various film festivals, such as the 2008 American Film Festival , the 2009 Short Film Jury of the Cannes Film Festival , and 2010 the San Sebastian Film Festival . She has received various honors for her services to culture, including a medal of honor in 1997 , presented by President Jorge Sampaio , and in 2011 the Knight's Cross of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres .

She is the cousin of the actress Beatriz Batarda and the niece of the painter Eduardo Batarda , Beatriz's father. Leonor Silveira and her husband Maria José de Abreu Castelo-Branco Adão da Fonseca have a son and two daughters.
