Luís Manuel Monteiro Galvão Teles (born December 4, 1945 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese film director , film producer and lawyer .

Live and act

His father was the lawyer Inocêncio Galvão Teles (1917-2010), a well-known law scholar and university professor, from 1962 to 1968 Minister of Education in the Estado Novo regime. His grandfather was the entrepreneur Adriano Soares Teles do Vale , founder of the famous Lisbon café A Brasileira .

After completing his law degree at the University of Lisbon (1967) Teles devoted himself to his passion for film. He was an assistant director at the state television RTP , attended the "Institut de Formation Cinématographique" in Paris from 1968 to 1970, and joined the Centro Português de Cinema .

After the Carnation Revolution in 1974, he was active in committed political films. Since the 1980s, however, he has also been producing films with more audience appeal, similar to the development of other directors of the Novo Cinema (e.g. António-Pedro Vasconcelos ). Since 1997 he has also worked as a producer with the establishment of Fado Films .

He also works as a lawyer and translator at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg and was coordinator for Portugal in the EAVE project (“Les Entrepeneurs de l'Audiovisuel Européen”) of the MEDIA program. He has two children (Patrícia and Gonçalo), of whom his son Gonçalo Galvão Teles is meanwhile also a filmmaker of Portuguese films .
