Ivo Canelas

Ivo Canelas (born December 23, 1973 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese actor.

Life

Born on December 23, 1973 in Lisbon, he went to Texas with his parents at the age of three , where they wrote their doctoral theses. After about six months he came back to Portugal for health reasons, where he lived with his grandparents until his parents also returned after a year. After completing school, he went to the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York , where he lived for four years, on a Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship . Back in Lisbon, he first played theater a. a. 1999 Jorge Silva Melos staged Bertolt Brecht's A Queda do Egoísta Johan Fatzer (orig .: Downfall of the egoist Johann Fatzer ). Also in productions by Solveig Nordlund , Diogo Dória , José Wallenstein and others. a. he stood on the theater stage. Canelas began starring in television series in the 1990s. In particular with the series O Fura-Vidas (German about: "The life planning destroyer") he became known to a broad television audience.

After he had a supporting role in Patrice Chéreau's film Die Bartholomäusnacht in 1994 , Canelas also began working as a film actor, and since 2000 has increasingly appeared in feature film productions for Portuguese film and television.

Canelas won various film awards, including the Globo de Ouro 2009 (for Arte de Roubar , by Leonel Vieira ), after being nominated for the award in 2008, for Call Girl by António-Pedro Vasconcelos , and for O Mistério da Estrada de Sintra by Jorge Paixão da Costa . In 2010 Canelas was honored as best actor at the film festival of Portuguese film , the Caminhos do Cinema Português in Coimbra , for his role in Desavergonhadamente Real (German: Shamelessly real, director: Artur Serra Araújo ). In 2009 he was nominated for his role in the television series Liberdade 21 at the Monaco TV Festival. In 2012 he was also awarded a Globo de Ouro as a stage actor.

Ivo Canelas is now considered to be one of the most important actors of his generation in Portugal, who has worked as an actor in international productions with Portuguese participation as well as having starred in successful films in Portuguese cinema, such as in Vicente Alves do Ós hit film Florbela , in 2012 Canelas plays the brother of Florbela Espanca . As a result, he has since become a prominent actor in Portugal, who has also attracted the attention of the tabloids .
