Bruno de Almeida
Bruno de Almeida (born March 11, 1965 in Paris , France ) is a Portuguese film director , screenwriter , film producer , film editor and cameraman .
Career
From 1980 to 1989 Almeida was a jazz musician . In 1985 he went to New York, a. a. he was guitarist in the band of Graham Haynes . From 1988 he turned to the cinema. In 1990 he founded his production company Arco Films . In 1991 he filmed the appearance of Amália Rodrigues in the Town Hall in New York, which ran on Portuguese television on the RTP and was released on DVD in Europe and the USA. He made his first short film in 1993 with The Dept , for which he won awards (including in Cannes).
The first full-length feature film was 1999 On The Run , u. a. with John Ventimiglia , who starred in the television series The Sopranos . Almeida's documentaries The Art of Amália (with the participation of the singer Amália Rodrigues in person until her death) and O Candidato Vieira (about the presidential candidacy of the musician Manuel João Vieira ) were shown in Europe and the USA and were released on DVD. In 2007, The Lovebirds was released , an episode film with many acting roles about the facets of the city of Lisbon (see also list of films related to Lisbon ).
In 2012 he directed the political thriller Operação Outono ("Operation Herbst"), a feature film based on the case of the "General without fear", Humberto Delgado, who was murdered by the Salazar regime . The general is played by John Ventimiglia. The film was produced by Paulo Branco and shows the fado singer Camané in his first film role since 1994.
