Ena Pá 2000 are a Portuguese comedy - rock - band from Lisbon .

They are known for their humorous, satirical-crude texts in which they play with social traditions and taboos. In their musical compositions, too, they mostly make parodic references to international pop / rock music and specifically Portuguese musical traditions.

The name already suggests the humorous satirical orientation of the band: Ena Pá is a slang exclamation that goes something like "You dear heaven!" or Au man! can be translated. Appending the number 2000 originally aimed for a similar, future-believing parodic effect, such as Christoph Schlingensief's aim with his projects Chance 2000 or Terror 2000.

history

The band was founded in Lisbon in 1984 around the artist Manuel João Vieira . Vieira, who is particularly active as a painter, came from the background of the Lisbon Homeostética art movement, which was founded in 1983, and has repeatedly caused a stir, for example as a presidential candidate or as the temporary owner of the traditional nightclub Cabaret Maxime .

The group Ena Pá 2000 owes its fame to a considerable extent to its charismatic singer. The humorous and exuberant character of the group's numerous concerts, especially in the 1990s, also contributed to the band's fame, especially through successful concerts at many Queima das Fitas , the traditional graduation ceremonies with folk festival character in Portuguese university cities .

In her satirical texts and provocative music videos , Ena Pá 2000 humorously refer to pornographic topics, social conventions , Portuguese traditions and national and international political grievances.

For her 20th birthday, the band announced on 30 November 2004 a concert in Lisbon club Paradise Garage , entitled "20 Anos A Pedalar Na Bosta" ( port. For: "20 years of kicking in the mud"). It was filmed by director Bruno de Almeida and released on DVD in 2005 with a number of bonus material.

On their last studio album (July 2016) O Álbum Bronco from 2011, they had a number of old companions as guest musicians, as usual, but also musicians known to the general public for the first time, such as guest singer Rui Reininho of the group GNR and Tim , singer of the Xutos & Pontapés .

A number of side projects exist in the environment of the musicians of Ena Pá 2000. Particularly well-known are the group Irmãos Catita , which parodied Portuguese-international easy listening entertainment music from the 1940s to 1960s and has already released three albums. The Corações de Atum and the Fado project Fados do Lello Perdido also achieved some notoriety, all with Manuel João Vieira as the lead singer.
