Gülhiye Cengiz (born April 14, 1992 in Moers ) is a German soccer player of Turkish descent. The midfielder was most recently under contract with Bundesliga club FCR Duisburg .

Career

Cengiz started playing football at the Moers club TV Asberg at the age of three and a half . She played in a boys' team until she was twelve. When she was then no longer allowed to play with boys, she moved to FCR 2001 Duisburg. With Duisburg's B-Juniors she became German champion in 2007 and runner-up two years later.

In 2009 she moved up to the second women's team of the FCR, which played in the 2nd Bundesliga South . Two years later, Cengiz was brought into the Bundesliga squad by coach Marco Ketelaer , where she made her Bundesliga debut at Hamburger SV on August 28, 2011 . On October 2, 2011, Cengiz scored her first Bundesliga goal against VfL Wolfsburg .

With the German U-17 national team , Cengiz became European champion in 2009 .

After graduating from high school , she will begin studying International Business and Social Science at the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kamp-Lintfort .

When FCR Duisburg was transferred to MSV Duisburg at the end of 2013, Cengiz was one of two players who did not join in order to concentrate on her studies.
