Vicente Alves do Ó

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vicente Alves do Ó (born January 2, 1972 in Setúbal ) is a Portuguese screenwriter and director.

Career

He was first known as a screenwriter for Portuguese films . In 2010 he directed his first full-length feature film, Quinze Pontos na Alma (“Soul Sewn with 15 Stitches”), which was followed by a biography of the writer Florbela Espanca . Florbela premiered on International Women's Day 2012. In view of the crisis in the industry in Portugal and in view of the limited possibilities of its producers, the film became a success with the public (over 17,000 visitors in the first two weeks, among the 40 most-viewed Portuguese films since 2004). This was made possible by an alternative, two-pronged distribution idea which João Botelho first used at O Films do Desassossego and which also screened the film in smaller cities, so that it was seen in 54 cities.

Based on the film, he produced another three-part television film about Florbela Espanca for the RTP .
