José Manuel Franco Wallenstein Teixeira (born October 18, 1959 in Lisbon , Portugal ) is a Portuguese actor .

Life

José Wallenstein is the son of the actor Carlos Wallenstein and the actress and director Maria Wallenstein . He has two brothers and a sister. His niece is the actress Catarina Wallenstein . From June 2009 to June 2011 he was married to Clara Quintão Pereira Jardim Portela. They have a daughter who was born in August 2011. He is currently in a relationship with the actress Rita Calçada Bastos .

Wallenstein began to play as a teenager, as an amateur actor. Since his role in Filipe La Féria's staging of Rene Kalinsky's A Paixão Segundo Pier Paolo Pasolini (English: The Passion according to Pier Paolo Pasolini ) in 1980 in the Lisbon Casa da Comédia , he has been considered a serious actor. He had his first film roles in Manoel de Oliveiras Francisca (1981) and Alain Tanners In the White City (1983). He completed his acting studies at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in 1985.

Parallel to his film work, where he starred in Oliveira's films The Silky Shoe , The Divine Comedy and The Postage of My Childhood , he worked at the theater with directors such as Luís Miguel Cintra , Ricardo Pais , Rogério Vieira , Fernanda Lapa , František Listopad and Gastão Cruz together. Since 2004 he has also appeared in over 1000 episodes of various telenovelas such as Só Gosto De Ti , Tempo de Viver , Olhos nos Olhos and most recently Anjo Meu . His participation in the popular RTP television series Conta-me como foi also made him known to a broader public in Portugal. However, he is primarily active as an actor in the theater in Portugal and in Portuguese film . In 2013, the film adaptation of the novel Night Train to Lisbon , in which Wallenstein plays a role, was released (see Night Train to Lisbon (film) ).
