Margarida Gil

Margarida Gil (born September 7, 1950 in Covilhã ) is a Portuguese film director .

Career

Gil studied German Philology at the University of Lisbon . She has been working for the public broadcaster RTP since 1975 . After directing work for television, including several documentaries, she made her first feature film in 1989 under the title Relação Fiel e Verdadeira , with which she took part in the Venice Film Festival . Her film Rosa Negra (1992) was selected for the official competition at the Locarno Film Festival . In 1999 she won first place at the Rome Film Festival with O Anjo da Guarda . Her film Adriana was Best Portuguese Film at the IndieLisboa Festival in 2005 . The leading actress Ana Moreira was awarded a Globos de Ouro as best film actress for her portrayal of the title role in 2006 .

Margarida Gil teaches at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the New University of Lisbon . She is the sister of the Trovante musician João Gil , and she was married to the director João César Monteiro (1939–2003).
