In 2005, Silva achieved an audience success with his first film O Crime do Padre Amaro (Eng .: The Crime of Father Amaro, based on a novel by Eça de Queiroz ), and the film became the most-watched Portuguese title (as of October 2012), and since then the state one Film institute ICA conducts public statistics (2004). One of the reasons for the success was the casting of the female lead with the well-known model Soraia Chaves , which Silva discovered for the cinema, and who subsequently became a successful actress in Portugal. The film was subsequently also released on DVD.

For his biopic Amália (2008), about the singer Amália Rodrigues , who died in 1999 , Silva was nominated at the Cairo International Film Festival for a Golden Pyramid, and in Portugal for a Globo de Ouro . The film was one of the major current cinema productions in Portugal. It cost around 3 million euros, was shot with 40 actors and 1,300 extras, and was shown in 66 cinemas in Portugal. Distributed in 20 countries, the film also received critical acclaim, particularly for its editing . With over 200,000 viewers, it again won the approval of the audience, both at the box office and subsequently as a DVD release.

Silva's next film, Uma Aventura na Casa Assombrada (English: An Adventure in the Shaded House, 2009), was another popular hit . Silva had already filmed some episodes of the Portuguese book series Uma Aventura (German: An Adventure) as a television series for the television station SIC between 2000 and 2005 . With the implementation of the book by Ana Maria Magalhães and the then Minister of Education Isabel Alçada , and with music by the group Mesa , Silva addressed the youth in Portugal for the first time with a film, something that no director of Portuguese film had done in recent times .
