Call Girl is a 2007 Portuguese crime film.

action

The ambitious businessman Mouros pays the luxury call girl Maria to bring the good-natured mayor Meireles into compromising situations and to make him submissive in order to obtain permission to build a daring luxury tourist complex. The Criminal Investigators Madeira and Neves then target Meireles because they suspect corruption in the looming deal. When the Madeira policeman, who is unconditionally in love with Maria, begins to recognize the main features of the trap set, the case becomes increasingly complicated for everyone involved.

reception

The film premiered on December 27, 2007 in Portugal and in 2008 at the World Film Festival in Montréal outside the country. It was a box office success in Portugal and is still one of the three most-watched Portuguese films since 2004. It was able to win over a wide audience thanks to its mix of critical script, entertaining tension with a few comical moments and well-known actors. The film thus combines the themes of sex, corruption, love and politics. Not least because Soraia Chaves cast the leading role , who has surprised as an actress since her film debut O Crime do Padre Amaro , the film reached a large audience. In addition, the popular Raul Solnado and the well-known director and actor Joaquim Leitão had smaller guest roles here.

The director António-Pedro Vasconcelos and the actors Soraia Chaves and Ivo Canelas each received a Globo de Ouro for the film in 2007 .

The film is an economically successful example of a series of works by former Novo Cinema directors who, after the Carnation Revolution in Portugal, increasingly opted for an audience-friendly cinema with which they tried to convey content. Vasconcelos has become their most successful representative.

Call Girl was released on DVD by ZON / Lusomundo in 2008 and was broadcast on the evening program of the private television channel TVI in 2010 .
