Manuel Ortlechner (born March 4, 1980 in Ried im Innkreis ) is a former Austrian football player . The defender played for FK Austria Wien from 2009 until the end of the 2014/15 season .

Career

At the age of six, Ortlechner started his career at his home club TSV Ort in Upper Austria . In 1996 he moved to SV Ried . Initially employed in the juniors and in the second team, the defender made his breakthrough in the Bundesliga in 2000 . Even after relegation in 2003, Manuel Ortlechner remained loyal to the Innviertel team for the time being. In 2004 he moved back to the Bundesliga and joined the ASKÖ Pasching , where he played on the left wing. With the club he took part in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup , in which they were eliminated in the first round. After the Paschinger license was sold to SK Austria Kärnten in 2007, Ortlechner played with them in Klagenfurt .

After two years with the Carinthians, he moved to FK Austria Wien in 2009 , with whom he was runner-up in his first season. In 2013, after four years with the Violets, Ortlechner won his first championship with Austria. With the "Veilchen" he has so far participated three times in the Europa League , in which the club also made it into the group stage twice. In autumn 2013 Austria reached the group stage of the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League , Ortlechner was elected to the team of the round in the second round of the group stage.

At the end of the 2014/15 season, he ended his Bundesliga career and signed a contract for the Austria amateurs in the Regionalliga Ost that ran until summer 2017. At the same time, he also took on the post of assistant coach for the U14 youth team for 6 months.

He announced the end of his career a few days before the 35th round of the 2016/17 season in the tipico Bundesliga and was officially bid farewell by his former team against Red Bull Salzburg on May 25, 2016 before the start of the game .

After the end of his active career, he became the project manager of the “Violafit” educational program at Austria Wien. At the beginning of the 2018/19 season he worked as an expert for the pay TV broadcaster Sky Austria . In 2018 he became Vice President of the Viennese start-up company and soccer network “Playerhunter”.

National team

In his youth, Ortlechner played twice for the Austrian U-18 national team. He was used nine times in the U-21 national team.

Under ÖFB team coach Josef Hickersberger Ortlechner was on 6 September 2006 in the match against Venezuela his debut in the senior team . However, he came to another use only three years later under Dietmar Constantini in the qualifying game for the 2010 World Cup against Romania . So far, he has been used in nine national team games.
