Alexander Walke (born June 6, 1983 in Oranienburg ) is a German football goalkeeper .

Career

Walke began his football career in the youth teams of SG Eintracht Oranienburg , before playing for the B-youth of Energie Cottbus from 1997 and from 1999 for the A-youth of Werder Bremen .

Werder Bremen

2001 Walke moved up to the second team in Bremen's Regionalliga Nord and completed five missions for them in the 2001/02 season . In the same year he had been noticed in the SV Werder boarding school through cannabis consumption and had to complete three months of individual training as a result. In 2002/03 he came to 20 missions for the Bremen reserve team, and in 2002 he was again able to prove cannabis consumption. SV Werder initially remained silent about both incidents.

Due to his sporting achievements, Walke had also recommended himself for the German U-20 selection and completed all three games in the preliminary round when the team was eliminated from the 2003 Junior World Cup . During a doping test, he was found to have taken tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main active ingredient in cannabis, for which the World Football Association imposed a seven-month ban on all national and international competitions and a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs . Uli Stielike , who was U-20 national coach at the time, then demanded a drastic ban for Walke, but Walke still played two games for the German U-21 team in 2004 .

Sc freiburg

After a total of 54 appearances for Werder's reserve team, Walke moved to the Bundesliga relegated SC Freiburg for the 2005/06 season , where he ousted Richard Golz from the team. In his first year for Freiburg, he played 29 games in the second division, and the Freiburg team missed out on a direct promotion as fourth. So Walke came to 33 more second division appearances for SC Freiburg in 2006/07 and was elected captain of his team at the beginning of the 2007/08 season . He had previously suffered a back injury in a car accident and only returned to the Breisgau team on matchday 10. After the 21st matchday, Walke lost his regular place to Michael Langer, who was newly signed during the winter break .

Wehen Wiesbaden and Hansa Rostock

For the 2008/09 season Walke moved to second division competitor SV Wehen Wiesbaden . His contract lost its validity when he was relegated in June 2009. For the 2009/10 season , Walke signed a three-year contract with FC Hansa Rostock . He replaced Jörg Hahnel as a regular goalkeeper. When he was relegated to the third division , his engagement ended after a year.

Red Bull Salzburg and Greuther Fürth

During the 2010 summer break, FC Red Bull Salzburg signed Walke, who signed a three-year contract with the Austrian Bundesliga club . Since Salzburg had also signed Gerhard Tremmel and used him as a regular goalkeeper, Walke initially only played in the last group game of the 2010/11 Europa League in December 2010, whereby Salzburg's departure from the competition was already certain in advance.

In January 2011, Walke was awarded to the German second division team SpVgg Greuther Fürth , where he took his position after the injury-related failure of the goalkeeper Max Grün during the second half of the 2010/11 season . For the 2011/12 season, Walke returned to Salzburg to form the club's goalkeeper duo together with Eddie Gustafsson after Tremmel's departure . Halfway through the autumn round, he managed to push Gustafsson out of the gate and become a regular goalkeeper.

His contract with RB Salzburg was extended in April 2012 for a further two years until June 30, 2015. In the 2013/14 season he lost his regular place to the Hungarian acquisition Péter Gulácsi . In the summer of 2015 he won it back from the previous number 1, Cican Stankovic , after mistakes . His constant performance was recognized by the league's coaches and officials when he was elected goalkeeper for the 2015/16 season. His contract with RB Salzburg was extended in January 2019 for another year until summer 2020. In 2020, Salzburg extended it again for a year, although it was not used in the current season due to injuries.
