Gerhard Martin "Gerry" Tremmel (born November 16, 1978 in Munich ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Career

The goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel started his professional career at SpVgg Unterhaching , where he made the jump from the national league team to the national league team and to the public's favorite in 2000. From 2002 he played for Hannover 96 and from 2004 to 2006 for Hertha BSC . For the 2006/07 season he moved to Energie Cottbus . Bojan Prašnikar made him the goalkeeper after taking office.

After FC Energie Cottbus was relegated to the Bundesliga , Tremmel speculated with a move to the Bundesliga or abroad and Energie got time to get in touch with other clubs. A move to Hamburger SV was broken at the last second, a three-year contract had already been negotiated. At short notice there was the opportunity to move to his hometown for FC Bayern . There he should have been number 2 behind Hans Jörg Butt , but Michael Rensing decided to stay in the state capital despite his demotion. Meanwhile, Cottbus signed the Canadian Lars Hirschfeld as a replacement. Ultimately, Tremmel came back to the Cottbus team and played 34 games in the 2nd Bundesliga . Due to the fact that his number 1 was assigned to Hirschfeld, Tremmel played in the 2009/10 season with the number 30. After that season, his contract was not extended by mutual agreement.

For the 2010/11 season Tremmel moved to FC Red Bull Salzburg , where he should replace the injured goalkeeper Eddie Gustafsson . Tremmel signed a contract with the “Red Bulls” until 2011. In the 2010/11 fall season, he received only thirteen goals in the league, making him the best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga .

At the end of August 2011, he moved to the English Premier League promoted Swansea City , where he signed a two-year contract. He made his debut for Swansea under coach Brendan Rodgers in the fourth round of the FA Cup against Barnsley FC in February 2012. In the same month he made his Premier League debut in a game against Stoke City .

On the 9th match day of the 2012/13 season , goalkeeper Michel Vorm had to leave the field after 66 minutes of play due to a groin injury. Gerhard Tremmel came to his second appearance in the league and guarded the goal in the following eight Premier League games.

In the round of 16 of the Football League Cup on October 31, 2012, he also guarded the goal in a 3-1 win against favored Liverpool FC , as well as in the 1-0 victory in the quarter-finals on December 12, 2012 against Middlesbrough FC . With Tremmel in goal, Swansea City even made it into the League Cup final on January 23, 2013 with a 0-0 (first leg: 2-0 away win) against the favored Chelsea FC . On February 7, 2013, Swansea announced that Tremmel had extended its contract to summer 2015. On February 24, 2013 won Tremmel with Swansea against the fourth division Bradford City , another surprise team, with 5: 0 in the Wembley Stadium the League Cup and the second title of his career after the DFB Hall Cup in 2001 with SpVgg Unterhaching.

After the contract had expired in the 2014/15 season , Tremmel and Swansea City agreed to work together again until 2017.

In January 2016 it was awarded to Werder Bremen until the end of the season .

In the summer of 2017, Tremmel ended his career as an active player and is now working as a scout for Swansea City from Germany.
