Sékou Koïta (born November 28, 1999 ) is a Malian football player who is used primarily as an attacking midfielder and striker .

After he became runner- up with the Malian U-17 team at the U-17 World Cup in Chile in 2015 , the then 16-year-old made his first international appearances for the Malian national team in 2016 .

Career

Sékou Koïta, who comes from the junior division of the lower class USC Kita , was also used for the men's team for the first time from the 2014/15 season. With this he won the Tournoi de Montée , the Malian relegation, and rose with the team in the Malian first class , where he was recommended for the Malian U-17 national team. He was then called up for the first time in 2015 at the age of 15 and took part with the Malian 21-man squad in the 2015 U-17 African Football Championship in Niger , in which he played in all five of his team's games came, contributed two goals and became African champions with the team after a 3-1 final victory over South Africa .

Because of this placement, the team qualified for participation in the subsequent U-17 World Cup in 2015 in Chile . After Baye Ba had called him back into the Malian 21-man squad, he was used in the finals in all seven international matches of his team as an attacking midfielder and was only eliminated with the Malians in the final with 0-2 against the Nigerian age colleagues . For the Malian U-17 national team, this runner-up was the greatest success in their history so far, having only recently qualified for the World Cup as Africa champions.

Due to his success with the U-17 national team, Koïta received his first call-up to the Malian senior team at the beginning of 2016 . After the team successfully qualified for the 2016 African Nations Cup , Koïta took part in the 2016 finals in Rwanda as part of the 21-strong Malian squad led by Djibril Dramé . The offensive player made his debut in the first game, a 2-2 draw against Uganda , and also scored his first goal for the national team when he scored 1-1 in the 23rd minute after Lassana Yiriba Samaké presented him . Subsequently, he was used in all games of his team and was ultimately eliminated only in the final with 0: 3 against the Democratic Republic of the Congo . At the end of the tournament he was voted into the "Best Eleven of the African Nations Cup" because of his offensive performance as a striker.

After playing for FC Liefering in friendly matches, he moved to FC Red Bull Salzburg in January 2018 , where he received a contract that was valid until June 2022, but was initially to be used for FC Liefering.

In January 2019 it was awarded to the Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC . After his loan ended, he moved into the Red Bull Salzburg squad for the 2019/20 season.

Personal

Four of his brothers are also footballers: Morimakan, Mamadou, Tiémoko and Mamby. Mamby (* 1998) last played for the Austrian second division club FC Blau-Weiß Linz . Morimakan (* 1990) is a former Malian selection player and was most recently active in Indonesia.
