Mërgim Berisha (born May 11, 1998 in Berchtesgaden ) is a German football player who also has Kosovar and Albanian citizenship.

Career

Berisha did his football training at the Salzburg Football Academy of FC Red Bull Salzburg and attended high school in Salzburg. On November 7, 2014, he played his first professional football game for the farm team FC Liefering under coach Peter Zeidler when he came on in the 78th minute of the game against SV Mattersburg . Just 50 seconds after being substituted on, at the age of 16 years, five months and 27 days, he scored his first goal in professional football when he touched the ball for a 3-0 win for FC Liefering.

In the 2015/16 season he played in the U-19s of FC Red Bull Salzburg in the UEFA Youth League and in the U19 Champions Trophy in Düsseldorf, where he was voted best player of the tournament. In 2016/17 he won the Youth League with Salzburg and came fourth in the scorers' ranking with seven goals.

In January 2017, Berisha also received a contract with FC Red Bull Salzburg that was valid until June 2020. In April 2017 he finally made his debut for the "Bulls" in the Bundesliga when he came on as a substitute for Wanderson on matchday 27 of the 2016/17 season against SCR Altach in the 77th minute .

In August 2017 it was awarded to league competitor LASK . For the season 2018/19 he was sent to Germany to the second division 1. FC Magdeburg lent. The loan ended early on December 31, 2018.

In January 2019, it was awarded to the Austrian Bundesliga club SCR Altach for a year and a half. After 31 appearances in the Bundesliga for Altach, in which he scored 14 goals, he was ordered back to Salzburg in January 2020.

National team

In October 2019, Berisha was nominated for the first time for the German U-21 selection . He made his debut for this in the same month against Spain .
