history

Construction began in the spring of 1952. The Wiener Neustädter Stadium was opened on May 19, 1955 by Mayor Rudolf Wehrl. It was built on the Daimler meadow under the construction officer Kutscha-Lissberg. With the completion of the stadium, the then first division club 1. Wiener Neustädter SC moved in from the Herbstfestplatz and played games in the top division until 1967 . In the 1972/73 season , first division football from SV Admira Wiener Neustadt was shown again.

The record attendance of 12,000 in the Wiener Neustädter Stadion dates from September 14, 1963 during the game against Wiener Austria , which was also sensationally beaten 1-0, although more people were actually present. After 1. Wiener Neustädter SC was in the ÖFB Cup final against champion LASK Linz in 1965 , with the first leg also taking place in the stadium, there was even a game in the European Cup winners' Cup against Știința Cluj on September 1, 1965 .

In the 1980s, the Wiener Neustädter Stadium was largely modernized and, among other things, equipped with a floodlight system and the covered grandstand was completed. In 1992 they were awarded the Supercup final . After the relegation of Wiener Neustadt from the 2nd division in 1995, no more professional football was to be seen until 2008 when SC Magna Wiener Neustadt from nearby Oberwaltersdorf moved into the stadium.

With this move in 2008, the existing floodlight system was rebuilt and adapted to current requirements, and adaptations were made for spectators (new bucket seats, service containers), players (cabin wing) and television (commentary booths, transmission equipment). The playing field received a new lawn. In football, the speedway track is also the one with the original occasion of EURO 2008 in Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium laid artificial turf covered. In 2008, a total of 1.2 million euros was invested in the stadium.

After a citizens' vote on the construction of a new, multifunctional sports facility in autumn 2014, the municipal council passed the fundamental resolution in December 2014 on the construction of this sports facility, which should replace the aging Wiener Neustädter Stadium in many areas and - among other things - The SC Wiener Neustadt is to serve as a new training and venue.

In the 2016/17 season, SC Wiener Neustadt attracted attention with a sponsorship campaign. The club raffled off its stadium name for the 2017 spring championship. Sponsors could take part for a price of 500 euros. The winner was the proposal from a German toy company with the name “Teddy bear and plush stadium”.

In February 2018 it was announced that the stadium will have various names in the spring season 2017/18 that change after each home game. The names are Puntigamer-Arena , Scherz-Kogelbauer TZ-Baumanagement-Arena , # wirsindanders-Arena , Reisner-Bad Arena , The Power Company-Stadion and ISG-Stadion . The name Puntigamer-Arena is the only one that is used twice.

New building

In 2009 Frank Stronach bought a plot of land near Wechsel-Strasse for a new stadium . But after these plans failed, an Ecoplus business park is planned on the site .

On January 23, 2017, the Wiener Neustädter Municipal Council decided by a large majority to build a stadium suitable for the Bundesliga with 3,500 seats. An agreement was also reached with SC Wiener Neustadt on the framework conditions for the project. Training grounds for the youth teams are planned next to the venue. The state of Lower Austria has promised a subsidy of one third of the costs, a total of eight million euros is expected. The aim of the new building is to return to the Austrian Bundesliga.

In a special meeting in mid-March 2018, the Wiener Neustadt municipal council unanimously decided to award the contract for the new stadium. The bidding consortium consisting of Strabag AG and Porr GmbH was awarded the contract and, as the general contractor, is responsible for the general planning, construction and the turnkey handover of the building. The new building is to be built between the Aqua Nova adventure pool and the Arena Nova event complex in the Civitas Nova district. It will meet the regulations of the Austrian Bundesliga. a. it has underfloor heating and a VIP area. When planning, particular attention is paid to the accessibility of the facility (ramps lead to the west stand). There should be photovoltaic systems on the grandstand roofs . If SC Wiener Neustadt were promoted to the Bundesliga, the stadium would offer 5,000 seats. Otherwise the available space will be less, with the possibility of later expansion. In addition, a training area with two main playing fields , one with artificial turf , and two small fields is to be created east of the Aqua Nova . The stadium should be ready for use in spring 2019. The costs should amount to 12.8 million euros. The financing is provided by the sale of the old stadium area and a third of the funding from the federal state of Lower Austria. Further talks are ongoing with the federal government about additional funding. The Arena Wiener Neustadt opened on September 28, 2019. The statue in the entrance area is to be moved to the new stadium.
