Walter Hörmann (born September 13, 1961 in Feldbach ) is a former Austrian soccer player and current coach . Most recently he was under contract with TSV Hartberg in 2012 .

Player career

He began his football career at the age of nine at Riegersburg . At the age of 14 he moved to Feldbach in the Styrian regional league, where he made his debut in the combat team at the age of 16. In 1980 he moved to SK Sturm Graz . In the 1980/1981 season under coach Otto Barić he was runner-up. He made his team debut on May 2, 1984 against Cyprus in a 2-1 win in Nicosia . After five years with Sturm, he moved to Switzerland for FC St. Gallen in 1985 . After two years in Switzerland, he returned to Austria to join FK Austria Wien in 1987 . With Austria Wien he achieved two championship titles and two cup victories. After five years with Austria, he made his comeback at his first professional club, SK Sturm Graz. In the summer of 1996 he moved to SV Austria Salzburg , where he was able to record his last great success by winning the Austrian championship title under coach Heribert Weber . After two successful years at the Salzach , he went to FC Kärnten in July 1998 and from January 2000 to DSV Leoben , where he only stayed until July 2000 (sources: websites "Fußball in Österreich" and "transfermarkt.at"). - Hörmann played 15 international matches for the Austrian national soccer team and made 429 appearances in the Bundesliga .

Coaching career

Hörmann began his coaching career as an assistant coach at FK Austria Vienna . When the then head coach Arie Haan was dismissed in 2001 , Hörmann took over the training of the combat team from August 2001 together with his former teammate Anton Pfeffer as an equal coach.

After the duo was released after only four months, he moved to the Principality of Liechtenstein in March 2002 and took over FC Vaduz , which was involved in the second Swiss league . From July 2003 onwards, he was also in charge of the games as coach of the Liechtenstein national soccer team and almost led the amateurs to their first victory.

In January 2004 he accepted the offer from Austria Salzburg to become a coach there, but was dismissed after two games and heavy defeats.

In the 2004/05 season he was coach at FC Wil in the Challenge League . In the summer of 2006 he took over the Austrian regional league team and runner-up in the 2005/06 season at SKN St. Pölten . On August 3, 2006 he passed the trainer diploma examination. After only 7th place was reached in the winter break of 2006/07 and a number of players had left the club, he was released from the contract at his request. On February 1, 2007, Walter Hörmann took over the post of sports coordinator at SK Sturm Graz. From April 27, 2007 to June 2008, he was the sports director and, after the dismissal of the former team manager Hans Lang, was solely responsible for the fate of the Graz company at manager level.

From December 19, 2008 to August 2010, Hörmann held the position of sports director at SCR Altach (source: transfermarkt.at); from April 1, 2012 to June of the same year, he was the coach of TSV Hartberg . Since August 1, 2012, Walter Hörmann has been the sports director of the Styrian Football Association .

Walter Hörmann is married for the second time and has two children.
