The SV Wals-Grunau is an Austrian football club from the Salzburg community Wals and currently plays in the Regionalliga West .

Club history

The SV Wals-Grünau was founded in May 1957 at a general assembly of the then ATSV Wals . The first board of directors consisted of Josef Hager, Rudolf Jezernik, Peter Sigl and Hans Langmann. The aim of this board was to found a soccer section and to start playing as part of the championship of the Salzburg soccer association . The then mayor of the city of Salzburg Alfred Bäck sponsored the first match ball . For the first few years until the completion of their own sports field on the Saalach , the team played their home games on Danubia Platz in the Lehen district . In 1964 the first youth department was opened and the sports field was gradually equipped with showers and cubicles. In 1970, the players' women founded the first women's team and also played many friendly matches. The club had its first success in 1976 and was promoted to 1st class north. In 1977 the municipality of Wals-Siezenheim built a floodlight system and renewed the training ground. Even chairman Josef Hager resigned after 20 years and handed it over to Hans Schruckmayer.

history

ups and downs

From 1979 to 1982 they missed promotion to the 2nd regional league four times in a row, the Grünauer finished second in each of these four seasons. In 1983 they rose to 6th place through a league reform in the 2nd national league, without ever having become champions. Difficult years followed, in which one had to repeatedly fight against relegation. During these years, the later President Edi Jost was the central figure in the game of the Grünauer. In 1986, Fritz Rathgeb, a very experienced trainer, was hired, who also laid the foundations for the later successful years. After 3 unlucky years, when you just missed promotion again, you could finally celebrate your first championship title in 1990. They made it to the first national league, but had to accept the departure of coach Rathgeb. After a 4th place in the following season, you could only move up to 7th place in the newly founded Salzburg League in 1992 as the winter king . In 1994, under coach Wolfgang Dietinger, they were promoted to the Regional League West . After successes at the Salzburg bull, they were relegated back to the Salzburg league in 1995, clearly beaten.

Since 2002

In 2002, coach Wolfgang Dietinger left the club after 8 years in the direction of ASK Salzburg . In 2004 things got even worse when they were relegated to the 2nd regional league. The immediate ascent was targeted, but it did not succeed. In 2008, it was only shortly before the end of the championship that it was possible to prevent leaving the class. When they narrowly missed promotion again in 2009, the goals for the 2009/10 season were rather low so as not to put anyone under pressure. This concept worked perfectly and at the end of the season the promotion to the Salzburg league could be celebrated . Under the coaching trio Toni Schaupper, Bernd Walcher and Michael Kalhammer, as well as the sporting director Hans-Peter Bauer, they did not lose a single game this season and rose undefeated. After Toni Schaupper left the club, Michael Kalhammer was presented as the new coach for the 2010/11 season. There were many coach changes in the 2013/14 season. The team is currently being trained by Franz Aigner.
