Faith Domergue

Faith Marie Domergue (born June 16, 1924 in New Orleans , Louisiana , † April 4, 1999 in Santa Barbara , California ) was an American actress .

Life

Domergue was adopted as an infant and never met her birth parents. She moved to California with her family when she was four. While still at school, she got a film contract with Warner Bros. and played a small role in the film noir Blues in the Night with Priscilla Lane . In 1942 she graduated from high school and met Howard Hughes at a party , with whom she then had a relationship for several years. He bought her out of her contract with Warner, had her trained as an actress and gave her a new film contract with RKO Pictures . In the 2004 feature film Aviatorvia Howard Hughes she was portrayed by the actress Kelli Garner .

Domergue received the lead role in Vendetta at RKO , which was produced from 1946. After the first directors, Max Ophüls and Preston Sturges , were dismissed, the release was delayed by several years, a total of five directors were involved. When the finished film was finally commercially unsuccessful, Domergue left RKO. In 1946 she was briefly married to the band leader Teddy Stauffer , but divorced in favor of a second marriage with the director Hugo Fregonese . In the 1950s she played the leading female roles in several B-Movie categorized feature films like The Horror from the Deep and Metaluna IV Doesn't Answer . In 1955 their second marriage was divorced, after which they moved to England and made three films there. From the late 1950s she played increasingly in television productions and had guest roles in television series such as Bonanza , Perry Mason and 77 Sunset Strip . In 1966 she married the Italian Paolo Cossa with whom she later moved to Italy. There she starred in L'amore breve alongside Joan Collins and Mathieu Carrière, as well as in Lucio Fulci's Naked About Corpses .

After the death of her third husband in 1991, she moved back to California, where she died of cancer in 1999 . From her second marriage, she had a son and a daughter.
