Roman Kienast (born March 29, 1984 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

society

In his youth, the Salzburg- born Viennese (his father played for SV Austria Salzburg from 1983 to 1985 ) played at ASV Vösendorf , where he was discovered by Rapid as a talent at the age of 14. His father Wolfgang Kienast and his uncle Reinhard Kienast already played for Rapid, Roman himself initially with the youngsters and later with the amateurs.

In 2002 he finally made his debut on the Rapid combat team. In the next two seasons Roman Kienast had a total of 24 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga , but he did not score a goal. The striker with a strong header also played several times in the U-19 and U-21 national teams of Austria. His greatest success here was the 3rd place at the U-19 European Championship in 2003 , where he scored two goals in a 4-1 in the group stage against the Czech Republic.

In 2004 Kienast was awarded to the second division club SCR Altach . After scoring four goals in six games for Altach, he returned to Vienna after just two months. In the remaining championship season 2004/2005 Kienast made 21 appearances and scored his first goals for Rapid. Eventually he won championships with the team that year and qualified for the UEFA Champions League .

In March 2006 Roman Kienast moved to the Norwegian association Ham-Kam . After the temporary relegation, he and his club managed to return to the first-class Tippeligaen at the end of 2007 . He himself scored 14 league goals.

On July 30, 2008, Kienast was signed by the Swedish first division club Helsingborgs IF for four months on loan, where he was supposed to replace Razak Omotoyossi, who had migrated to Al-Nasr . After only twelve games, the loan contract expired and Kienast returned - including a trial training interlude with English second division club Plymouth Argyle - back to Norway and played there, after the club's relegation, until his contract ended in 2009 in the second highest Norwegian division.

On January 19, 2010 Roman Kienast moved back to Austria, where he signed a contract with Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz until summer 2010, with the option of a two-year extension. This option was drawn on April 6, 2010. Kienast's contract with Sturm Graz was therefore valid until 2012.

In the 2010/2011 season he scored 19 goals in the championship and thus had a significant share in winning the championship. In the fall of 2011, a metatarsal fracture put him out of action for 1.5 months, which meant he only made 13 appearances in the championship, in which he scored a total of 6 goals. On January 30th 2012 Sturm Graz announced the immediate change from Kienast to Wiener Austria. The parties have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee. In the 2013/2014 season he scored the decisive goal as a substitute for the group stage of the Champions League , in which he scored the first goal for Austria Wien in Champions League history in a 1-1 draw against FC Porto .

In January 2015 Roman Kienast returned to SK Sturm Graz. He signed a contract until 2017. After the 2016/17 season he left Sturm. In September 2017 he moved to the Swiss second division club FC Wil , with whom he received a contract that was valid until December 2017.

After the end of the contract he left Wil again. In February 2018 he returned to Austria, where he joined the second division club SC Wiener Neustadt . After the forced relegation of Wiener Neustadt, he moved to the regional league club SV Stripfing for the 2019/20 season .

National team

He made his senior national team debut on October 13, 2007 against Switzerland . His first and so far only goal he scored on May 27, 2008 in a 1-1 draw against Nigeria . Kienast was also in Austria's squad for the 2008 European Championship in Austria and Switzerland, where he was used in all three group matches. He came on against Croatia in the 74th minute , against Poland in the 64th minute. Kienast was exchanged for Germany in the 67th minute. In June 2011, he completed his last international match in a 3-1 win in the friendly against Latvia .
