Florian Klein (born November 17, 1986 in Linz ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

society

Klein had played in the youth department of LASK from the age of 7 to 17 before he was active in the third-class regional league middle in 2003/04 at city rivals FC Blau-Weiß Linz . Returning to LASK in 2004, he completed three seasons in the second-rate first division and in 2007 rose with the team as champions in the Bundesliga . In his Bundesliga debut on July 10, 2007 (1st matchday) in the home game against SK Austria Kärnten , he scored the winning goal to make it 1-0 in the 89th minute.

After disputes with the Linz board, Klein let his contract expire in 2009 and signed with FK Austria Wien for the following season . From July 19, 2009 (1st matchday) to May 17, 2012 (36th matchday), he played 105 Bundesliga games and scored six goals. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he moved to double winners FC Red Bull Salzburg , for whom he played regularly from the start after a few initial difficulties and was featured 20 times for the club in his first season.

For the 2014/15 season , Klein moved to the German Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart , for whom he made his debut on August 24, 2014 (1st matchday) in the 1-1 away game against Borussia Mönchengladbach and on October 18, 2014 (8th matchday) in the 3: 3 scored his first Bundesliga goal in the home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen with the goal to make it 2: 3 in the 67th minute. Even after the descent of VfB Stuttgart in 2016, he remained loyal to the club. After he was promoted again directly with VfB, his contract, which expired at the end of the 2016/17 season, was not extended.

In August 2017 he returned to Austria Wien, where he received a contract valid until June 2020. In three seasons, Klein made 82 Bundesliga appearances for Austria. After his contract ended, he left the club again.

National team

After Klein had completed five international matches for the U-19s and 23 for the U-21 national team (three goals), he made his debut in the senior national team on May 19, 2010 , which played the international test match against the in Klagenfurt Croatian selection lost 0-1. In autumn 2015 he qualified with the national team for participation in the 2016 European Championship finals in France ; the first participation of an Austrian national team in a European Championship finals after athletic qualification. He was included in Austria 's EM squad and was in the starting line-up in all three games of the group stage. He was one of the players who played all matches over the full playing time. After that, the team retired as bottom of the group.
