Friedrich Stickler
Friedrich Stickler (born January 18, 1949 in Vienna ) is Deputy General Director of Austrian Lotteries, a member of the Board of Directors of Österreichische Sporthilfe and was President of European Lotteries, co-opted member of the UEFA Executive Committee and Chairman of the UEFA Committee for Club Competitions. During his tenure as President of the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB), he made the joint bid with Switzerland for the 2008 European Football Championship a success.
life and career
After completing his studies at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, Friedrich Stickler joined Casinos Austria and took over the management of the ship's casinos and headed the board secretariat. In 1985, Stickler played a key role as project manager in the successful introduction of the “6 out of 45” lottery in Austria. Stickler was appointed to the board of directors of Austrian Lotteries in 1986. Stickler has been chairman of the Casinos Austria and Lotteries professional group of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce since 2002, and has been Deputy General Director of Austrian Lotteries since 2006.
Friedrich Stickler was elected President of the European State Lotteries & Toto Association (European Lotteries) based in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2009. After his re-election in 2011, Stickler was re-elected in this position in 2013. In 2015, Hansjörg Höltkemeier, CEO of Lotto Berlin and the Lotto Foundation, took over this role from Stickler.
In 2015, Stickler was elected to the executive committee of the global lottery monitoring system "GLMS" for sports betting. The aim is to combat betting fraud and manipulation in international sports. In 2010, Friedrich Stickler was the first Austrian to be inducted into the Lottery Industry Hall of Fame.
From 2002 to 2008 Stickler was President of the Austrian Football Association, from 2005 to 2009 a board member of the Austrian Olympic Committee and from 2007 to 2008 a co-opted member of the UEFA Executive Committee. In 2002, in this role, he and his Swiss colleague succeeded in bringing the 2008 European Football Championship to Austria and Switzerland.
