Herbert Raggautz

Herbert Raggautz (born April 5, 1928 ; † July 23, 2019 ) was an Austrian civil engineer , civil servant ( Oberamtsrat ) and football official .

Life

Herbert Raggautz was born on April 5, 1928 and completed an apprenticeship as a civil engineer after completing general schooling . As such he was employed for decades by the municipality of Wolfsberg . From 1951 the then 23-year-old was a member of the board of the Carinthian Football Association and in the 1953/54 season acted for the first time as deputy chairman of the minor league. After he was promoted to chairman of the lower league in the following season in 1954/55, he was again the deputy chairman of the lower league one season later (1955/56). In 1957 he was finally promoted to chairman and held this position until 1960. From February 26, 1961 he was vice president of the association and rose to president on May 23, 1964. He subsequently held this office for a period of 36 years until April 1999. A year later, he was appointed honorary president of the Carinthian Football Association. Already in possession of the silver medal of merit of the association, he also received the golden merit ribbon of the KFV in 2001.

In addition to his work in the Carinthian Football Association, Raggautz also worked in various functions for ATSV Wolfsberg . For many years he held the functions of cashier , managing director and section head . He was also increasingly active in the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB), especially from the 1970s . From April 11, 1975 he was, among other things, chairman of the appeal panel of the ÖFB. From 1966 (until 1999) he was a member of the ÖFB federal executive board and was part of the ÖFB presidium from 1968 to 1999. In addition, there was work in numerous ÖFB commissions. In 1982 he inherited Karl Sekanina as President of the Austrian Football Association together with Heinz Gerö , who had already held this position from 1970 to 1976 . The Raggautz-Gerö team then worked on an interim basis as executive ÖFB vice-president until 1984, before Beppo Mauhart took over the presidency of the association of national football associations in Austria and the Austrian Bundesliga. After that, the Lavanttaler continued to support the ÖFB as vice-president. On April 11, 1999, both Sekanina and Raggautz were appointed honorary presidents of the ÖFB. Due to his outstanding achievements, he was previously the recipient of the Silver and Gold Medals of Honor of the Austrian Football Association.

Raggautz died on July 23, 2019 at the age of 91 and was buried on August 3, 2019 at the side of his wife Irmgard (1927–1994) and his daughter Ilse (1955–2017) in the family grave at Stadtfriedhof III (group N, no. 40) buried in Wolfsberg. He left two brothers and a son and families.
