The general gymnastics and sports club Wolfsberg , ATSV Wolfsberg for short , is an Austrian sports club from the city of Wolfsberg in Carinthia . The football club will play in the Carinthian League from the 2020/21 season . In addition to football, the club also has chess, tennis, badminton, table tennis and ice shooting sections.

history

The club was founded in 1921 by sports enthusiasts from Wolfsberg. The initially small group practiced their sport more or less in secret. In 1923 the Wolfsberg Workers' Gymnastics Club was officially founded. The focus was on men's and women's gymnastics. Due to the political situation, the association was dissolved in 1934. The association was re-established immediately after the end of the war.

Soccer

The ATSV Wolfsberg, which is also called "ATUS Wolfsberg" in various earlier reports, played in the first full year of play after the Second World War , i.e. 1946/47, in the 1st class, which was the top division of the Carinthian Football Association at the time (KFV) represented. However, there was relegation, but immediately promoted to the first class, which was divided into two regions, but was still the highest division at the state level (only the Tauern League , which was newly founded in the summer of 1949, was higher ).

Class affiliations: 1946/47: 1st class → 1947/48: 2nd class, group B * 1) → 1948/49 to 1951/52: 1st class, group B → 1952/53 to 1955/56: Landesliga Kärnten Liga * 2) → 1956/57 to 1958/59: 1st class, group B * 3) → 1959/60: Unterliga * 4) → 1960/61 to 1964/65: Landesliga Kärnten Kärntner Liga * 5) → 1965/66 : Lower league (still one-piece) → 1966/67 to 1976/77: Landesliga Kärnten Kärntner Liga → 1976/77 to 1979/80: Unterliga, Gruppe Ost * 6) → 1980/81 to 1982/83: Landesliga Kärnten Kärntner Liga → 1982/83 to 1986/87: Unterliga Ost → 1987/88 to 1999/2000: Landesliga Kärnten Kärntner Liga → 2000/01 to 2004/05: Unterliga Ost → 2005/06 to 2013/14: Landesliga Kärnten Kärntner Liga → 2014 / 15: Regionalliga Mitte → 2015/16: Landesliga Kärnten Kärntner Liga 2016/17: Regionalliga Mitte → 2017/18: Landesliga Kärnten Kärntner Liga

  • 1) second highest, but at the same time lowest division
  • 2) top division at state level (the name "Carinthian League" only existed from 1959/60)
  • 3) now second highest division
  • 4) there was only a one-piece sub-league, which (in the course of major reforms with the installation of the regional league) was the second highest division at the state level (including the first and second classes)
  • 5) since 1959/60 highest league at state level
  • 6) From 1968/69 division of the sub-leagues into the "Group West" and "Group East"

The ATSV Wolfsberg escaped relegation from the Carinthian regional league as the third from last at the end of the 1996/97 season , as there was a merger between SK Austria Klagenfurt and Villacher SV in the Middle Regional League , which meant that SVG Bleiburg was also in the RLM could remain and thus no KFV club had to relinquish the RLM.

But three years later, at the end of the 1999/00 season, the ATSV Wolfsberg had to relegate as bottom of the table from the Carinthian regional league. It took five years before ATSV Wolfsberg could qualify again for the Carinthian regional league after the 2004/05 season. ATSV Wolfsberg was able to prevail in the relegation against ATUS Nötsch (A 1: 1, H 3: 0) and was thus represented again in the Carinthian regional league from the 2005/06 season onwards.

ATSV Wolfsberg was able to finish the championship of the Carinthian regional league in second place in the table in the 2010/11 and 2012/13 season. In the 2013/14 season, ATSV Wolfsberg then managed to achieve first place and as 2014 champions of the Carinthian regional league to rise to the regional league middle.

However, ATSV Wolfsberg ended the first game year in the Middle Regional League, the 2014/15 season, bottom of the table and had to relegate to the Carinthian regional league in summer 2015. ATSV Wolfsberg finished the 2015/16 season as runner-up in the Carinthian Regional League. However, since ATUS Ferlach, as champions in 2016, voluntarily renounced promotion to the Middle Regional League, ATSV Wolfsberg was able to return to it after a year of absence. In the 2016/17 season, ATSV Wolfsberg - together with another club from Carinthia, six clubs from Upper Austria and eight clubs from Styria - took part in the championship in the third-highest division in Austria. However, this second attempt lasted only a year, so that in 2017/18 the Carinthian League had to be played again.

Handball

In 1956 the handball club of ATSV Wolfsberg was runner-up in Austria. To this day, it is the club's greatest success. In 1961 the handball section was dissolved.
