Austrian sport aid
The Österreichische Sporthilfe ( Austrian Sports Aid for short), based in Vienna, is a non-profit and independent association that was founded on October 29, 1971 with the aim of supporting Austria's young and top athletes with and without disabilities .

To date, more than 3,000 athletes have received funding from Austrian Sports Aid (as of 2019). The athletes are supported according to their performance in the categories gold, silver and bronze . Gold categorized receive up to € 800, - per month, in the category silver up to € 400, - and in bronze up to € 200, - are paid out. Athletes already supported by a sports funding agency ( HSZ , BM.I , BMF, etc.) are funded with reduced amounts. The classification is carried out according to the funding criteria by an evaluation commission, the representatives of the Austrian Sports Aid, the Federal Ministry for Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport , the Federal Ministry for National Defense , the Austrian Olympic and Paralympic Committee , the Bundes-Sport GmbH, the federal sports organization as well as athlete representatives. Exclusion criteria for funding are team and team performance, national successes and an annual income that exceeds € 100,000.
Sporthilfe currently supports around 240 young and top athletes (as of October 2019), including Vanessa Herzog , David Gleirscher , Tanja Frank , Teresa Stadlober , Dominik Landertinger , Clemens Doppler , Janine Flock , Thomas Geierspichler , Pepo Puch , Jasmin Ouschan and Benjamin Karl . Former elite athletes supported by sponsors included Mirna Jukić , Gregor Schlierenzauer , Wolfgang and Andreas Linger , Felix Gottwald , Kate Allen , Julia Dujmovits , Claudia Lösch , Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger and Johanna Ernst .
Since 2004, Sporthilfe has also honored the three best young athletes as part of the youth sports prize and awards scholarships with a total value of € 20,000. The previous winners include a. the skiers Anna Veith and Marcel Hirscher , the ski jumpers Thomas Morgenstern and Gregor Schlierenzauer , athlete Lukas Weißhaidinger and swimmer Dinko Jukić .
In addition, Sporthilfe offers athletes the opportunity during their sporting career to prepare for their professional life after their sporting career in educational programs. For this purpose, the WIFI Sports Aid Academy was founded with the Austrian Chamber of Commerce in 2004 , whose agendas were later taken over by KADA (Verein Karriere nach ). Since 2017, the ÖSH and the Institute of Management at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland have been offering an MBA in Business Administration & Sport. The course, which is unique in Europe and independent of time and location, is offered as a distance learning course.

The incumbent Sports Minister or State Secretary always acted as president until 2020. In May 2020, Susanne Riess was elected President after Sports Minister Werner Kogler resigned from office. Susanne Riess previously held this office from 2000 to 2003. Eduard Müller held this office from September 2019 , previously from January 2018 Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache and from 2016 Hans Peter Doskozil President of Sporthilfe.

Financing and sponsorship
Sporthilfe does not receive any state funding. Financing is provided exclusively through partnerships with companies, benefit events and fundraising activities such as the " Krone Charity Auction", the charity school campaign or the charity calendar. The main sponsor has been the Austrian Lotteries since 1986 through the sports promotion anchored in the Gambling Act . Numerous other companies support various special funding programs or appear as sponsors at events.
With the Sporthilfe fundraising campaign "Held aus Österreich" launched in 2016, T-shirts and hoodies with the label "Held / Heldin aus Österreich" can be purchased from Sporthilfe in a separate merchandising collection, thus supporting young athletes.
In autumn 2018, Sporthilfe was awarded the Austrian seal of approval for the first time as part of the LOTTERIEN Sporthilfe gala .
Events
With the “LOTTERIEN Sporthilfe-Gala” (formerly “Night of Sports”), the association organizes the largest benefit event in Austrian sport every year. As part of this gala, Austria's athletes of the year are currently recognized in the following categories:
- Sportswoman of the year
- Sportswoman of the year with a disability
- Sportsman of the year
- Disabled Sportsman of the Year
- Special Olympics Personality of the Year
- Team of the year
- Newcomer of the year
- Coach Personality of the Year
- Sportsman with a heart
The Steirische Sporthilfe-Gala is also organized by the ÖSH, honoring the Styrian Sportsman of the Year. In addition, Österreichische Sporthilfe organizes a large number of charity events. Benefit events take place in various sports such as golf, running or bowling as well as in cooperation with various catering establishments. A fixed point each year is the “Ski for Gold” charity race, in which celebrities from sport, culture and society take part on the day before the night race on the Planai .
As part of the Sporthilfe Business Community (SBC, previously Sport & Business Circle), business people interested in sport and private supporters have the opportunity to take part in these charity events and exchange ideas with top Austrian athletes.
