Gerald "Gerry" Strafner (born June 3, 1973 in Voitsberg ) is a former Austrian football player and now coach.

Career

The Styrian began as a young player at ASK Voitsberg (from September 1982). From there he moved to the Grazer AK in 1996 , where he quickly fitted in and for the first time attracted attention throughout Austria in European Cup games. After coach Klaus Augenthaler was signed in 1997 and numerous new signings, he lost his regular place with the "Red Devils" and moved to SV Ried before the 1998 spring season . There, too, he was able to show up as a striker in the European Cup games and in the championship and in 1998 win the ÖFB Cup . His goals in the European Cup earned him the nickname "Euro Gerry".

After the 1998/99 season, Gerald Strafner moved to SK Sturm Graz . For the black and white, the former striker was converted into a defender. During his time at SK Sturm Graz, Gerry Strafner played three times for the Austrian national soccer team . He made his debut on October 27, 2001 in a 1-1 draw in the World Cup qualifier against Israel in Tel Aviv . In 2004/05 he went to FC Kärnten , which had just been relegated to the second-rate first division , where he played as captain until 2007. 2007-2009 he was with FC Gratkorn , also in the second highest division, under contract. In 2009 he returned to his first club, ASK Voitsberg , which was represented in the Regionalliga Mitte . Gerald Strafner has been playing at ASK Köflach since summer 2012 (at that time in the Styrian West Lower League), where he also became a coach from 2013. After two second places (2012/13 and 2013/14), Strafner, now as a coach, won the title in the 2014/15 season and thus promotion to the top division, where the club played in the middle group in 2015/16 (sources: Netzwerk des Austrian Football Association).
