Daniel Royer (born May 22, 1990 in Schladming ) is an Austrian football player on the position of midfielder . Since August 3, 2016, Royer has been playing in Major League Soccer for the New York Red Bulls .
Career
youth
Royer began his career as a youth player at FC Schladming in Upper Styria , where he was active from 1996 to 2004. In 2004 he moved to the youth department of the Styrian capital club SK Sturm Graz . The midfielder played his first competitive game in the Sturm dress on August 28, 2005 in the U-17 Toto youth league against SK Rapid Vienna . The game in Purkersdorf ended 2: 4. Royer scored two goals this season, including playing in a team with Christoph Kröpfl . In the following youth league season Royer came back to the U-17 and also in the U-19. The U-19 could reach seventh place. In 2007/08 he was accepted into the amateur team in spring 2008.
Club career
Royer made his debut with the amateurs in the Regionalliga Mitte on May 16, 2008 against TSV Hartberg . He came on in the 63rd minute for Markus Ostermann. The game in Kumberg ended 1: 1. He then played four more games, scoring a goal against 1. FC Vöcklabruck and against SVG Bleiburg . The amateurs were runner-up. In the 2008/09 season he came on twelve missions and scored two goals (against SC Weiz and Union St. Florian ). They finished third behind the rivals from Styria TSV Hartberg and the Grazer AK .
In 2009/10 he moved to the regional league promoted FC Pasching , a successor club to the former Bundesliga club Superfund Pasching . Royer was used 25 times in the eventual regional league champions and scored six goals. But you could not get promoted due to the lack of a license for the first division . The midfielder was then signed by the Upper Austrian Bundesliga club SV Ried . Royer made his debut in the Bundesliga on matchday 1 of the 2010/11 season on July 17, 2010 against his former regular team Sturm Graz. He came on in the 71st minute when the score was 0: 2 for Philipp Huspek . The game in the No Worries Arena ended 0: 3. At the end of his first full season, Royer won the Austrian Cup with SV Ried.
After the start of the 2011/12 season and the missed entry into the Europa League group stage, Royer moved to the German club Hannover 96 on August 31, the last day of the transfer window . He made his debut for the Hanoverians on September 24, 2011 in the Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg . Royer came on in the 88th minute for Sérgio Pinto . The game in the SGL arena ended goalless.
For the 2012/13 season Royer moved to 1. FC Köln on loan .
On June 24, 2013 FK Austria Wien announced Royer's commitment. He was given a two year contract plus an optional year.
On May 22nd, 2015 the Danish champions FC Midtjylland announced the signing of Royers on July 1st, 2015.
At the beginning of August 2016, Royer moved to the North American Major League Soccer for the New York Red Bulls.
National team
Royer was called up twice for Austria's U-20 national team , but was ultimately not considered for the games in the four-nation tournament (games against Germany , Switzerland , Italy ). On May 19, 2011 Daniel Royer was called up for the first time in the Austrian national team by team principal Didi Constantini . In the following game on June 3, 2011 Royer came to his first appearance for the Austrian national team . He came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute of the European Championship qualifier against Germany.
