Seo Jung-won (born December 17, 1970 in Seoul ) is a South Korean soccer coach and former soccer player.
Career as a player
The Korean started his career at Sangmu FC in Seoul. In 1997 he moved to LG Cheetahs . After a year at Anyang, the little whirlwind moved to Europe for the first time in January 1998. The club was Racing Strasbourg . From 1999 to 2002 he was engaged in Strasbourg . In 2002 he went back to South Korea to join Suwon Samsung Bluewings . In January 2005 he came to Austria Salzburg in Austria . Since Seo was no longer needed after the takeover of Austria Salzburg by Red Bull, he moved to SV Ried . There he played an extremely successful 2005/06 season and became a regular in right midfield. Due to his playing position and speed, he was nicknamed "wing racer" in Ried. In June 2006 he extended his contract with SV Ried for another year.
In May 2007 he announced his departure from Ried and the temporary end of his professional career, but at the same time expressed the wish to stay in Europe in order to be able to learn even more for his later career as a coach. In the spring 2008 season he was registered with FC Blau-Weiß Linz , which was playing in the fourth-class Upper Austria league during this period , but was only used in a single competitive game.
Seo Jung-won made 86 appearances for the South Korean national team .
Success as a player
Seo took part in the World Cup in 1994 in the USA and in France in 1998 . He played a total of six times and scored one goal in 1994.
Career as a coach
During his time at SV Austria Salzburg in 2005 he was a player-coach . From 2008 to 2010 he looked after the U-23 team of the South Korean national team and then the seniors until 2011. In 2012 he became an assistant coach at Suwon Samsung Bluewings and has been head coach here since 2013.
