The Wattener Sportgemeinschaft Tirol (officially WSG Swarovski Tirol ), WSG Tirol for short (until 2019 Werksportgemeinschaft Wattens ), is a sports community from the Tyrolean market town of Wattens , which is particularly known for its soccer section, which is spun off into WSG Swarovski Tirol GmbH . This currently plays in the Bundesliga . The club colors are green and white, the home site is actually the Wattener Gernot Langes Stadium , the former Wattener Alpenstadion. Since the stadium is not suitable for the Bundesliga and is being converted, the team will play their home games in the 2019/20 season at the Tivoli Stadion Tirol in Innsbruck .

The Tyroleans were able to establish themselves in the second-highest performance level and were finally able to win this in the 1967/68 season as the factory sports association Swarovski Wattens, WSG Swarovski Wattens for short. At that time, the Arlbergliga had already been replaced by the Regionalliga West and, as champions, SV Wattens had direct promotion rights to the National League . After the club was still fighting relegation in the first season, it was soon able to establish itself in the new league. An important player commitment came in the summer of 1969 with that of Hans Küppers .

SpG Wattens-Wacker Innsbruck (1971–1975)

In 1971 it was possible to enter a syndicate with the second Tyrolean first division club, FC Wacker Innsbruck . The time as SpG Wattens-Wacker Innsbruck is the most successful in the club's history, while Wattens' second team, the SPG Amateure Wattens, started in the Tyrolean lower house. With Peter and Friedrich Koncilia , Walter Skocik , Roland Hattenberger , Helmut Siber , Manfred Gombasch and Günther Rinker , numerous players joined the new team that would become regular players in the future championship eleven. Even if they are mainly remembered today as "Wacker players", they came from Wattens. Friedl Koncilia was the only one among them who was the first WSG Wattens footballer to play in the Austrian national team even before the game community .

SpG Wattens-Wacker Innsbruck (1975–1979)
SpG Wattens-Wacker Innsbruck (1979–1986)

The syndicate soon became the most successful team in Austrian football. In 1972, 1973, 1975 and 1977 the Tyroleans won the Austrian championship title in the Bundesliga and also won four times in the ÖFB Cup (1973, 1975, 1978 and 1979). Two Mitropa cup victories also fell during this successful period . In the 1975 final, SpG Wattens-Wacker Innsbruck defeated the Hungarian club Honved Budapest 3-1 at home and 2-1 away. In the following year 1976 Velež Mostar waited for the syndicate in the final . Wattens-Wacker Innsbruck celebrated the second Mitropa Cup victory with two 3-1 successes over the Yugoslavs . In the 1977/78 season there were also notable successes in the European Cup with victories against FC Basel , Celtic Glasgow and Borussia Mönchengladbach . After numerous departures, the temporary relegation to the 2nd division and economic difficulties, the syndicate with Wacker separated in 1986, where FC Swarovski Tirol took over the first team in the Bundesliga. The WSG Wattens for their part succeeded in the 1981/82 season as second in the Regionalliga West promotion to the 2nd division.

Wattens was able to hold on to the introduction of the play-off system in 1985 in the 2nd division and failed in the Regionalliga West as runner-up in 1986, in 1988 only barely on the rise before this succeeded a season later. During this time, Robert Wazinger and Roland Kirchler , who later went to Innsbruck and were also used in the national team, played. This time Wattens stayed in the second tier until 1994, but after only one year in the regional league, the club reported back with immediate promotion. With the second division reform of 1998, however, came back to the Regionalliga West. The almost obligatory resurgence followed just one season later. The Tyroleans stayed in the second division until 2001, but this time relegation was only followed by the runner-up title.

With the rise, however, the solution of the gambling community was connected. The FC Wacker exercised the right of promotion, the Werksportgemeinschaft Wattens played after the promotion of the second team in the Tyrolean league. After the Tyrolean championship title in 2005, WSG Wattens is back in the Regionalliga West and has now set itself the goal of advancing to the first division . The club just missed this as runner-up in the Regionalliga West 2008/09 . In the 2010/11 season they missed the promotion in the relegation against Blau-Weiß Linz after a 1-0 away win and a 0-1 in the second leg after extra time on penalties with 3: 4 again. In the 2011/12 season , the Wattenern under coach Roland Kirchler managed to win the championship title of the Regionalliga West with a six point lead over USK Anif , who placed second . The team accomplished the feat of remaining undefeated in all 30 games of the season. This qualified the Tyroleans for the relegation games against SV Horn , the representative of the Regionalliga Ost. The Lower Austrians turned out to be too strong, the Wattener lost the home game in front of 3,000 spectators with 1: 5 and were defeated 0: 4 away.

In the following seasons you always placed in the top three, but it wasn't enough for promotion. In 2015/16 they made the first place in the Regionalliga West. The relegation game between WSG Wattens and FC Blau-Weiß Linz was canceled because SV Grödig had become an amateur club and SV Austria Salzburg and SK Austria Klagenfurt had not received their license.
