The WSG Tirol II is the second team of the Austrian Bundesliga club WSG Tirol . The team has been playing in the Regionalliga Tirol , the third highest division , since the 2020/21 season .
history
The amateurs of the then WSG Wattens club rose after several seasons in the sixth-class regional league in 2009 as champions of the regional league east in the fifth-class regional league . In the national league they finished ninth in 2009/10. In the 2010/11 season they improved to eighth place. In the 2011/12 season it went up one place again, finishing seventh at the end of the season. In the 2012/13 season, the Wattener came third and only just missed promotion to the Tyrolean league . In the 2013/14 season Wattens II was runner-up behind SK Jenbach in the Landesliga Ost and thus met the runner-up in Group West, SV Telfs, in the promotion playoff . This could be defeated with a win in the first leg and a draw in the second leg and thus promoted to the Tyrolean league.
In the debut season in the fourth-highest division, the Wattener took eighth place. They finished third in the 2015/16 season and were nine points behind the champions SV Wörgl . In the 2016/17 season, the team finished fifth. In the 2017/18 season they finished twelfth, with four points ahead of the relegation ranks they only narrowly escaped relegation to the regional league. In the 2018/19 season, the team was able to improve significantly again and finished fifth at the end of the season and thus missed promotion to the newly created Regionalliga Tirol by just one place and one point. In the 2019/20 season, the team, now acting as WSG Tirol II , took third place after the first half of the season before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . However, since FC Zirl had withdrawn from the regional league, the Tyrolean amateurs took over the vacated regional league pitch.
