The Gernot Langes Stadium (proper spelling Gernot Langes Stadion ) is a football stadium in the Austrian market town of Wattens . From the opening in 1959 to 2019, the home games of WSG Wattens ( WSG Tirol since 2019 ) took place here. Due to renovation work after the promotion to the Bundesliga, the club moved to the Tivoli Stadion Tirol in Innsbruck in the 2019/20 season .

history

The WSG Wattens stadium was inaugurated on June 16, 1959 and was then the most modern sports facility in western Austria. A solar system on the stadium roof warmed the water for the adjoining Alpenbad. In 1967 the venue was expanded with a new grandstand in the south when WSG Wattens was promoted to the National League, as the highest Austrian league was then called.

In 2013, the stadium was given its current name on the occasion of the 70th birthday of the long-time club president.

Since the stadium is not suitable for the Bundesliga, WSG Tirol moved to the Tivoli Stadion Tirol in Innsbruck for the 2019/20 season . In the meantime, the Gernot Langes Stadium is to be expanded and the capacity increased to 6,500 seats.

Capacity

The stadium has space for 5,500 spectators, 1,100 of which are under the roof. After the club was promoted to the first league , a television tower was built and the floodlights were adapted to meet the licensing requirements of the first league.

investment

The facility also includes a second natural grass pitch with floodlights and a small artificial turf pitch .
