Athanasios “Thanos” Petsos ( Greek Αθανάσιος “Θάνος” Πέτσος , born June 5, 1991 in Düsseldorf ) is a Greek - German football player .
Career
society
Petsos moved from Düsseldorf SC 99 to Bayer 04 Leverkusen youth team in 2001 . On March 5, 2010 he was used for the first time in the Regionalliga West in the second team of Bayer Leverkusen. Seven weeks later he was substituted on in the Bundesliga game against Hannover 96 and made his professional debut. On June 27, 2010, he and Bayer Leverkusen's U-19 lost the final of the German A-Junior Championship against Hansa Rostock with 0: 1.
For the 2010/11 season Petsos was awarded to 1. FC Kaiserslautern . Although actually brought in as a right-back, he played almost exclusively in the defensive midfield at FCK. In April 2011, both clubs agreed to extend the loan for another year. Petsos was under contract at Bayer Leverkusen until 2014. For the 2012/13 season he moved to SpVgg Greuther Fürth . He signed a three-year contract with the then Bundesliga promoter. For the 2013/14 season he went to the Austrian Bundesliga for SK Rapid Wien , where he signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2016.
For the 2016/17 season he moved back to Germany for Werder Bremen on a free transfer . He signed a three-year contract. In January 2017 Petsos went on loan to Fulham FC in the English Football League Championship .
In August 2017 he returned to Rapid Vienna on loan.
Petsos returned to Bremen in summer 2018, but is no longer part of the Bundesliga squad of coach Florian Kohfeldt . After he had not found a new club in the summer transfer period, he joined the team training of the second team, which plays in the fourth-rate Regionalliga Nord , in September 2018 . After the end of his contract, he left Werder after the 2018/19 season.
After half a year without a club, he returned to Austria in January 2020 and moved to WSG Tirol .
National team
After playing for the Greek U-19s seven times, he played his first game for the Greek U-21s in a friendly against Belgium on March 28, 2011. For the friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on August 10, 2011, he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time. In the goalless draw, he came on in the 83rd minute for Konstantinos Katsouranis .
