The Gauliga Ostmark 1938/39 was the football championship in annexed Austria and was organized by the football department and contested by its members. Several district classes served as a substructure for the Gauliga Ostmark . In the end, SK Admira Wien prevailed and was Austrian football champion for the seventh time. As master of the Gauliga, Admira was allowed to take part in the finals of the German soccer championship in 1938/39 . The Jedleseer prevailed as the winners in Group 3 and thus qualified for the semi-finals in which they defeated Hamburger SV . The club was in the final against Schalke 04 . A few days before the game, Admira's team supports Peter Platzer and Toni Schall were recalled from the NSRL for a selection game against Silesia, from which both returned seriously injured. So Admira was without a goalkeeper and had to "train" a young recruit with Buchbinder for the final game. The club thus went into the final with virtually no goalkeeper or a chance, which developed into a scandalous game under the direction of the Dresden referee Schulz: Admira ended the final with only seven field players, the game ended 0: 9. After Szepan mocked Admira, he was struck down by Fritz Klacl with a hook on the chin, which resulted in a lifelong ban, which, however, was collected again after serving at the front.
Gauliga
General
The championship in the national league was contested with 10 teams, each of which met twice during the entire season. The Austrian / East Markets soccer champion was the Viennese Admira, who won their seventh championship title and was thus admitted to the German championship in 1939. With Grazer SC, SK Amateure Steyr and Wacker Wiener Neustadt, the last three teams in the table had to relegate to the district classes.

Regional League Tyrol
The Tyrolean clubs were not integrated into football in the East Markets, but played their championship in the Tyrolean regional league . A promotion to the Gauliga Ostmark was excluded from the outset. In this season the season was terminated prematurely, so no championship title was awarded.
