Anton Ondruš (born March 27, 1950 in Solčany ) is a former Slovak football player and current player agent . In 1976 he became European champion with the Czechoslovak national team .
Career
Anton Ondruš played for Slovan Bratislava in his youth . There the defender made the leap into the first team in 1970. The 1.89 meter tall Ondruš quickly established himself as a Libero.
1974 Ondruš made his debut in the Czechoslovak national team, whose mainstay he would be for the next seven years. He was team captain of Czechoslovakia 37 times , including at the 1976 European Championships in Yugoslavia , where Czechoslovakia won the gold medal.
With Slovan Bratislava he won the Czechoslovak football championship in 1974 and 1975 . In 1974 he won the Czechoslovak Cup , 1974 and 1976 the Slovak Cup . In 1978 he played briefly for Dukla Banská Bystrica and then returned to Slovan Bratislava. At the European Championships in 1980 he managed to win the bronze medal with his team.
In 1981 Ondruš moved to Club Bruges in the Belgian league, but only played nine competitive games there. The Slovakian played for the French club CS Thonon-les-Bains from 1983 to 1987 before ending his career at FC Biel-Bienne in Switzerland from 1987 to 1989 .
Anton Ondruš completed 226 games in the Czechoslovak League, in which he scored 38 goals. In 1974, 1975 and 1977 he was voted the third best player in Czechoslovakia, and in 1976 the second best.
In Thonon-les-Bains he was also a player -coach from November 1986 to January 1987 .
Later activity
Anton Ondruš was President of ŠK Slovan Bratislava for a short time in 1997 . Today he works as a players agent in Switzerland.
