Václav Ježek

Václav Ježek, 1979

Václav Ježek (born October 1, 1923 in Zvolen , † August 27, 1995 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak football player and coach .

Player career

Václav Ježek never played for bigger clubs and never in the first division. His stations were Slavia Banská Bystrica, SK Jaroměř, SK Dvůr Králové, Spartak Úpice, Spartak Hradec Králové , Střela Milovice, Dukla Brno and Tatran Liberec .

Coaching career

He started as a youth coach at Tatran Liberec , then he also held this position at Jiskra Liberec . At Lokomotiva Česká Lípa he coached the adult team. He made a name for himself between 1959 and 1963 as a youth head coach at Dukla Prague . From 1963 to 1969 he was head coach at Sparta Prague and won the championship in 1965 and 1967, the Czechoslovak Cup and the Mitropa Cup in 1964 . He then looked after the ADO Den Haag team from 1969 to 1972 .

He became the coach of the Czechoslovak national soccer team , with which the 1976 European Championship in Yugoslavia won. In 1978 he went to Holland again , this time to Feyenoord Rotterdam , where he stayed until 1982. Then Ježek took over Sparta Prague again for two years. Between 1984 and 1986 he was a coach at FC Zurich and then again for two seasons at Sparta Prague. From 1988 to 1990 he worked as an assistant coach for the national team.

In 1991 he surprisingly went to Sparta's greatest rival, Slavia Prague , where he coached the team with Vlastimil Petržela . He took over the selection of the Czechs and Slovaks for six games in 1993, but failed with her in qualifying for the 1994 World Cup in the USA .

• Václav Ježek was elected coach of the 20th century in the Czech Republic in 2001 .
• An international U18 tournament has been held annually in his honor since 1994, the Mezinárodní turnaj Václava Ježka .
