Marián Masný (born August 13, 1950 in Rybany , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak football player . He became European champion in 1976 with the Czechoslovak national team .

Career

Marián Masný began playing football in his native Rybany in western Slovakia. From 1967 the winger played for Spartak Tatra in Bánovce nad Bebravou, a few kilometers away . From 1969 to 1971 Masný completed his army service for Dukla Banská Bystrica , who then played in the 2nd division. Masný spent most of his career from 1971 to 1983 with Slovan Bratislava , with whom he became Czechoslovakian champion in 1974 and 1975 . In 1974 and 1982 he won the national cup competition with his team . In 1981 he was the top scorer in the Czechoslovak first division with 16 goals .

In the Czechoslovak national team Masný made his debut on September 25, 1974 in a 3-1 win against the GDR . In 1976 he celebrated his greatest success by winning the European Championship . In 1980 he contributed to winning the bronze medal, on June 24, 1982 he said goodbye to the international football stage in the game against England as part of the World Cup . In nine years Masný had played 75 international matches and scored 18 goals for Czechoslovakia.

In the spring of 1983, the Slovak moved to SC Neusiedl am See in the Austrian Bundesliga . After a knee injury, he returned to Bratislava , but to the smaller club TJ ZŤS Petržalka , with whom he was promoted to the first division. To his 97 goals from the time at Slovan Masný could add six more in the 1984/85 season, but not prevent the relegation of his team. Then Marián Masný moved to FC Mönchhof in Burgenland , where he worked as a player until 1996 and as a coach from 1995 to 1998.

His brother Vojtech Masný was also a Czechoslovak national player, his son Marián Masný junior played for Slovan Bratislava, Artmedia Petržalka, Tatran Devín, FK Dukla Banská Bystrica, ŠKP Bratislava and FC Mönchhof.
