Eduard Kainberger

Eduard "Edi" Kainberger (born November 20, 1911 in Salzburg ; † March 7, 1974 there ) was an Austrian football player . The goalkeeper won the silver medal with the Austrian amateur selection at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin .

Career

Edi Kainberger played together with his younger brother Karl at the SAK 1914 in the Salzburg State League. At that time, the league was aimed at amateur players and was not connected to the professional Austrian championship, which at that time was limited to the Vienna area. Edi Kainberger won the state championship several times with the Nonntalers and reached the final of the amateur state championships three times . He was first called up in the national amateur selection in 1933 in a duel against Hungary and accompanied the team with coach Jimmy Hogan to the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Edi Kainberger was in goal in all four of the amateur national team's games and, as the team's most experienced player, wore the captain's bow.
