Siegfried Joksch

Siegfried "Friedl" Joksch (born July 4, 1917 in Süßenbrunn , Lower Austria , today a district of Vienna ; † April 29, 2006 there ) was an Austrian football player and multiple selection player.

Career

Joksch began his career with Admira, who was one of the top Austrian at the time, and won the championship title and the cup competition with the Floridsdorfers . In 1937 he moved to Austria Vienna and formed the classic "half row" of violets with Leopold Mikolasch and Ernst Ocffekt. In his time he was considered a "gentleman footballer" who played his sport with a "head" and was able to bring calm to the team with his serene game from the side runner . The midfielder was best known for his inch-perfect flat passing game, which many football greats and journalists described as masterful and exemplary. With Austria he won the championship twice and was successful in two cup finals.

As an admirer, Joksch already played in various national teams, such as the Vienna city team , but as an Austrian he only celebrated his debut in the Austrian national team in the third post-war international match on December 6, 1945, in the historic 4-1 win against France . By 1950 he had made 22 appearances in the national team. He played a total of 28 games in selected teams, including one as a member of the Austrian Olympic team at the 1948 Olympic Games .

After finishing his active career, he briefly coached Kapfenberger SV , but then retired from top-class football. On April 29, 2006, the oldest living former Austrian died at the age of 89.
