Helmut Voggenberger (born April 21, 1943 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer ) is a former Austrian Nordic skier and soccer player .

Career

Voggenberger already played football and skiing in his childhood. At the age of twelve he became a member of ESK Saalfelden and played soccer in the youth team. At the age of 15 he came to ski jumping at SC Saalfelden through Otto Horngacher . In 1963 he won the Austrian youth championship title. In 1966 he reached third place in the combination at the Austrian state championships. Two years later, Voggenberger was finally sent to the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , where he reached 35th place in the individual Nordic combined. Previously, he had won the runner-up title in combination at the Austrian State Championships in 1967. Shortly afterwards he had to end his skiing career, as he hardly had the opportunity to continue skiing due to his transfer from the gendarmerie post in Zell am See to the criminal investigation department in Innsbruck .

Voggenberger then became a contract player at Wacker Innsbruck and won the championship title three times and the cup twice with the team in the early 1970s. He was also appointed to the amateur national team. After he also ended his football career, he started playing boccia and won the Austrian title three times as well as silver with the national team at the European Championship in 1994.

He has two children with his wife Ingrid, daughter Brigitte (* 1967) and son Helmut junior. (* 1971), both of whom played volleyball professionally in the Bundesliga. His son Helmut was later also a trainer.
