Peter Werner (born April 25, 1946 ; † September 23, 2017 ) was a German football player .

Career

Peter Werner began his professional career at the age of 18 with FC Bayern Munich in the Regionalliga Süd . In this he came for the first time on August 30, 1964 (5th game day) in the goalless draw at Kickers Offenbach . After two more appearances, at the end of his first professional season with Bayern - as the second youngest player - he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 1965/66 . Under coach Zlatko Čajkovski he had to wait a long time before making his Bundesliga debut. On March 19, 1966 (26th matchday), he scored his first goal in a 3-0 home win against Hamburger SV and prepared another. A week later, his second goal meant the 1-0 win in the home game against FC Schalke 04 . By the end of the season he was used six times in the championship (2 goals) and once in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup and thus contributed to winning the cup.

In the following season he played 13 games, scored one goal and was also used internationally for the first time. The 1-1 draw in the first leg of the first round of the European Cup Winners' Cup at 1. FC Tatran Prešov was his first of three games in this competition, which Bayern also won. In the 1967/68 season , his fourth and last in Munich, he was used in seven Bundesliga, two DFB Cup and two semi-finals in the European Cup Winners' Cup against eventual winners AC Milan .

After the season he moved to league rivals Kickers Offenbach, for whom he was only used three times, the last time on November 16, 1968 (15th matchday) in a 0-0 home game against FC Bayern Munich, when he was 77. Minute for Janos Kondert was substituted on. Then he finally moved to FC Wacker Innsbruck in Austria . In three seasons he contributed to winning three titles before moving to league rivals SK Rapid Wien in 1972, finishing second in the championship with him and making it to the cup final, which was won on two legs due to the away goals rule of SSW Innsbruck .

Werner last lived in Görwihl-Rüßwihl in southern Baden. He died on September 23, 2017 after a long and serious illness.
