Red Wings Airlines is a Russian airline based in Moscow and based at Moscow Vnukovo Airport .

history

Red Wings was founded in 1999 under the name VARZ-400 . VARZ means Vnukovo aviation repair company . In 2001 it was renamed Airlines 400 before being given its current name in 2007. It is owned by the tycoon Alexander Lebedew .

In 2008 the company planned to add new Airbus A320-200s and possibly Airbus A321-200s to its Tu-204 fleet. To date, however, these plans have not been implemented and the implementation of the order announced in 2010 for a total of 40 Tu-204SMs is questionable. Only a ninth Tu-204 ( aircraft registration number RA-64017 ), which was previously operated by Orenair , was integrated into the fleet in summer 2012.

On February 1, 2013 - a few weeks after the accident on Red Wings Airlines flight 9268 - the Russian flight authority Rosaviazija Red Wings revoked its operating license with effect from February 4, 2013, this was officially justified with financial problems. There were also allegations of inadequate training of the pilots, which was rejected by the owner. In June 2013, however, Red Wings received a new operating license and resumed regular operations.

Red Wings Airlines had to decommission its fleet of five Sukhoi Superjet 100 in May 2016 . Two aircraft were returned to Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and three to State Transport Leasing. The manufacturer Sukhoi had previously filed for several lawsuits because leasing fees had not been paid.

Destinations

Red Wings Airlines offers scheduled flights for passengers and cargo as well as charter flights to various destinations in the Mediterranean region . Antalya is the most important destination.
