Jed Kurzel (* 1976 ) is an Australian film composer and musician .

Life

Jed Kurzel and his older brother Justin Kurzel grew up in Gawler , north of Adelaide .

Jed followed his brother, who started studying at NIDA in the early 1990s, to Sydney a few years later .

Jed Kurzel founded the rock band The Mess Hall with Cec Condon . His brother was initially a member of the band, but soon withdrew from making music. The duo's debut album of the same name was released in 2001. For their third album, Devils Elbow , they were awarded the 2007 Australian Music Prize .

At the same time, Jed Kurzel wrote music for his first short films. He wrote his first score for a feature film for his brother's directorial debut, The Murders of Snowtown in 2011. His score was named Feature Film Score of the Year at the 2011 Screen Music Awards .

After Kurzel wrote the soundtracks for the feature film Son of a Gun and the documentary All This Mayhem in 2014, he worked again with his brother in 2015 on the realization of Macbeth .
