List of cultural monuments in Plauen
The list of cultural monuments in Plauen includes the cultural monuments of the district town of the Vogtlandkreis. It is a subset of the list of cultural monuments in the Vogtland district .
introduction
The city of Plauen was first mentioned in a document in 1122. The certificate was issued on the occasion of the consecration of the Johanniskirche , which should be the oldest architectural monument in the city.
The city developed rapidly at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1880 around 35,000 people lived in the city, but in 1904 it became a large city with 100,000 inhabitants. Associated with this was a brisk construction activity, during which entire city districts were newly created. Towards the end of the Second World War, Plauen was bombed extensively and 75 percent of it was destroyed. Many monuments were lost as a result. During the GDR era, the old buildings were neglected and construction activity tended to concentrate on new buildings, which quickly made a lot of living space available. A number of architectural monuments fell into disrepair during this time, so that some of them could no longer be saved. The renovation work that began after the fall of the Wall helped the existing monument to regain its shine.
The cultural monuments of the city of Plauen and its districts were recorded by the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Saxony . The listing in the list of cultural monuments serves to prepare the list of cultural monuments in the Free State of Saxony and was published in 2012 on the website of the city of Plauen. In this list, no movable cultural monuments, parks, underground cellars, mines, graves, archaeological monuments, aggregates and monument protection areas to be determined by statutes were recorded. The documentation of these monuments takes place at the lower monument protection authority of the city.
The present list is based on the list of cultural monuments published in January 2012, the list of December 23, 2009, which also contained cellars and parks, cemeteries, memorial stones, sculptures, factual assemblies and technical monuments, as well as the list of monuments of the State Office that has been accessible since 2017 for monument preservation. The division into individual lists is based on the division chosen by the city of Plauen and includes lists for the individual districts of the city. These lists name the individual monuments and their addresses, indicate their location via a link, show a picture of them and describe them briefly. However, they do not differentiate between the type of cultural monument, since this subdivision is not provided for by law in Saxony.
