(map)
1954 With a store, of architectural importance, rare evidence of still authentic architecture from the early GDR, also of urban significance. Planning ensemble with kindergarten, outpatient clinic and others on Walter-Suchanek-Straße. The building complex, which was built around a corner with three house entrances and a corner shop, is a three-story plastered building of architectural, local and urban significance. It was built mainly in 1954 as a special project to solve the living space problem of the workers in the staple fiber mill (Enka). This work had a decisive influence on Elsterberg's post-war economy, which found expression not only in the housing project, but also in a kindergarten and an outpatient clinic of the same architectural style (also Walter-Suchanek-Straße). The architectural style with the deep structures and flat hipped roofs is typical of the early GDR era and, among other things, with the “classicism” of its plastered ground floor, points to “national cultural heritage”. Design accents continue to be set by belt cornices and the artificial stone framing of some openings, gabled risals optically mark the stairwells and the ground floor shop area with a balcony above as a corner accent is reminiscent of the premises of urban planning in the 1920s. Art in architecture was found in a sgraffito “dance around the maypole”, which is now covered. Originally a human-sized corner sculpture was also envisaged, but was not executed. Opposite the residential buildings from the time the work mentioned above was created (1909 ff.), This 1950s development was matched by its closed shape, creating an urban ambience with space. 09302023

The architectural quality of the originally preserved building is achieved through a dignified, rhythmic relationship between openings and wall as well as through the small-scale sprouting of the windows. The entrance is framed in a neoclassical style, all of these are typical features of public construction activity in the GDR after the war. The proclaimed forms of the “national cultural heritage” produced buildings that combined conservative elements (door frame, “classicist” deep structure, hipped roof) with modern objectivity (row of windows flush with the wall). Special importance in terms of building history and local history. Two-storey plastered building on rubble stone base with flat mansard roof, tall rectangular lattice windows (nine axes) entrance area on one storey. 09232353
