Detailed memorial texts

  1. Pirk dam :
The Pirk dam is the last facility built in Saxony before the beginning of the Second World War. The developer was the Weißelsterverband in Gera. With a storage space of 10.73 million cubic meters, Pirk is one of the medium-sized dams (Klingenberg, Lehnmühle and Saidenbach have a higher capacity). The dam is 250 m long, but only 15.7 m high. The squat proportions are counteracted by the gentle curvature of the building. The dam was not a listed building in the early 1990s, the renovation, which should be completed in the summer of 1996, probably took place without the consent of the monument protection authorities. Renewing the top of the wall has noticeably changed the original appearance in some details. The monument value of the facility is not called into question by this impairment.
    • Barrier structure: Concrete gravity dam, clad with diabase on the air side, irregular, slightly rusticated stone layers, central flood overflow, laterally enclosed by two strong, buttress-like wall templates, divided into six overflow fields, the two southern fields equipped with movable weir flaps (fish belly flaps renewed), between the fields Narrow sections of the wall rise up, carrying a walkway constructed in concrete that bridges the overflow, the walkway originally consisted of six compartments clamped between the retaining walls, during the renovation the load-bearing wall sections were reduced and the walkway was redesigned from a continuous plate, the former The horizontally accentuated parapet made of wood is replaced by a differently structured aluminum railing, the original path surface made of irregular slates is to be renewed true to the original
    • Gate valve and turbine house: cubic structure leaning against the dam with a slightly inclined roof made of slate, four tall rectangular windows, the former handling of the parapet lost, in the two-storey building original bottom outlets with wedge gate valves operated by a servo system (company Voith , Heppenheim) and turbine (company Voith), built in 1938, and the associated generator ( Sachsenwerk , Niedersedlitz), 470 kVA, 3100 V, built in 1938, the valve housing accentuates the asymmetrical disposition of the system through its arrangement to the right of the flood overflow
    • Still basin: Located at the foot of the flood overflow, it widens towards the valve house, where it merges into the artificial river basin of the White Elster, which is crossed by a narrow concrete bridge. A staircase leads to the keeper's house at the southern end of the dam. The keeper's house, which has been expanded and rebuilt several times, is not part of the protected area.
    • Gauge house: about 800 m below the dam, the drainage level inside has been renewed, the old reading device has been stored
    • Mühlgraben: used to empty the stilling basin if necessary
    • The pre-barrier at Dobenck consists of twelve individual blocks, 200 m long, 9 m high, forms a lake of 45 ha, mostly the pre-barrier is overflown
Height of the dam above the foundation base approx. 23 m, crown width 3.65 m, crown length 250 m, concrete structure clad on the air side with natural stones (Theumaer slate), turbine JM Voith 1938 (number 12764). Crane: Findeisen, Maschinenfabrik Chemnitz 1938. "Fischbauchklappen" (stowage flaps) 1937. On the north side above the dam there is a contemporary residential and administration building with a rustic base (no memorial, address: Gößweiner Straße 1 or Am Strand 1). The pillars of the nearby motorway bridge were built together with the dam (weight wall, stamped concrete).
