The Oelsnitz (Vogtl) train station is the train station for the city of Oelsnitz / Vogtl. Until the closure of the Lottengrün – Oelsnitz section of the Herlasgrün – Oelsnitz railway line , the station was a railway junction of local importance; today only the Plauen – Cheb railway line is in operation.

history

Surname

The station already had four different names during its operation, in detail these were:

  • until April 30, 1905: Oelsnitz i. V.
  • from May 1, 1905: Ölsnitz i. V.
  • from July 1, 1911: Ölsnitz (Vogtl)
  • from October 5, 1930: Oelsnitz (Vogtl)

business

After the Saxon-Bavarian Railway Company had gradually opened the Leipzig – Hof railway line from 1842 to 1851 , the neighboring cities benefited considerably from the railway connection. That is why the remote towns in the Reichenbach / Plauen / Falkenstein area also wanted a rail connection. In the mid-1850s, numerous railway projects, some of which were in competition with one another, were created. In 1861 the route for the Voigtland State Railway from Herlasgrün to Eger was finally decided. The railway line was opened on November 1, 1865. The transit station Oelsnitz corresponded to the extent that the Lokstation Lengenfeld station. The representative station building was one of the larger buildings on the railway line.

Ölsnitz train station around 1910

At the beginning of the 1870s, the station was expanded extensively in the course of closing the gap between Plauen and Oelsnitz and relocating the second track to Brambach. To make room for the new track system, the slope of the Galgenberg south of the station was removed and raised on the north side. The tracks from the direction of Falkenstein ended at a turntable in front of the station building, the significantly shorter connection Plauen – Oelsnitz – Adorf – Eger was to take over the national traffic of the Herlasgrün – Falkenstein – Oelsnitz section. A total of around 4.5 km of track and 22 points were built. The Plauen – Oelsnitz section was opened on November 1, 1874, making Oelsnitz a station of separation . Until the turn of the century, the facilities were expanded several times due to the increased traffic.

Essentially, the station facilities remained in this form until the end of World War II . The only changes at the beginning of the 1910s were the construction of two signal boxes (and the associated remote control of almost all points), the construction of an overpass for Hofer Straße (today's B 92 ) at the southeastern head of the station and in 1932 the demolition of the boiler house. After the Second World War, some of the tracks in the station section of the Herlasgrün – Oelsnitz railway line were dismantled in order to repair war damage on the open line. The second track on the Plauen – Cheb railway line was dismantled in 1946 as a reparation payment. The Lottengrün – Oelsnitz section was used for the last time on April 26, 1951 and was then completely dismantled within four months in order to obtain track material. By the end of the 1950s, the now superfluous tracks on the Falkensteiner side of the Oelsnitz train station were removed and the turntable pit filled.

Almost nothing changed until the 1990s, only two connecting railways were closed by the end of the 1960s. With the economic repercussions of the fall of 1989/90 , freight traffic almost completely disappeared. The no longer used goods shed was demolished in 1997; today there is a modern bus station at this point. In total there are still 6 tracks in the station, two of them on the loading road . There is also a siding to a construction company.

Oelsnitz locomotive station

Since the Oelsnitz station was at the beginning of a long ascent to Lottengrün , a boiler house for pre-tensioning and supply locomotives was built here when the railway was built. The half-timbered building had four stands, which were spread over two tracks. In the second half of the 1870s, two more stalls were added.

Since stronger locomotives were available after the First World War, the trains to Lottengrün and Adorf no longer had to be hauled by two locomotives. The locomotive station was therefore closed on October 1, 1925, and the boiler house demolished seven years later. Most recently, the Oelsnitz locomotive station was part of the Adorf depot .
