history

The local aristocratic family von Machwitz had their ancestral home in the village, initially as a ring wall on the road towards Planschwitz . This manor was first mentioned in 1236. The von Raschau (1372) and Thoß (1410) families were among the later owners of the place . The Magwitz manor was first referred to as a knight 's seat in 1445 . The manor was built at the current location after the castle was abandoned. The von Falkenstein family owned it from 1487 to the 17th century . During their time, the property was divided into two outbuildings , which were combined into a manor in 1606. The Magwitz manor was then owned by the von Reitzenstein family (1719–1749), a Mr. Kospoth (until 1766), Max Fulda (from 1901) and the Rinn brothers (from 1920). In 1937 the usable area of the manor was sold to the Weißelsterverband, who used part of it for the construction of the Pirk dam . From 1938 until it was expropriated as part of the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone, the courtyard was owned by Hermann Freude from 1945 . Between 1952 and 1990 the property was used by the LPG .

Today's castle area is located on a slope facing the main street, where there is a staircase for pedestrians along the remains of a defensive wall. The walled four-sided courtyard contains ancillary buildings and an inhabited main house.
