Machwitz is the name of an old Vogtland noble family with the same name as the Magwitz an der Weißen Elster .

history

The family first appeared in a document on May 1, 1236 with Cunradus de Machewic and on January 29, 1244 as miles (knight). In addition to the ancestral castle, their possessions include the nearby Stein Castle .

Machwitzer in Unterlauterbach

Unterlauterbach is now part of the town of Falkenstein in the Saxon Vogtland . Unterlauterbach first appeared in documents in 1416. At that time, the knight's seat belonged to the brothers Hans, Georg and Heinrich von Machwitz. In 1537 the manor came into the possession of Eberhard von Feilitzsch on Treuen .

Machwitzer in Wiedersberg and Reichenfels

In 1503 Hans von Machwitz zu Wiedersberg bought the care (rule) and castle Reichenfels near Hohenleuben from Heinrich the Elder von Schleiz and Greiz . Members of this family also sat in Wiedersberg (Castle and Wiedersberg Castle ) and Reichenfels Castle near Hohenleuben on January 29, 1244 .

Machwitzer in Prussia

Already in the 14th century a line of the family came to Prussia . From this line closely connected with the order , Sander von Machwitz was Vogt of Neumark in the years 1413–1420 . The family also took an active part in the class struggles in Prussia in the 15th century.

Machwitzer in the Regnitzland

The von Machwitz family can also be traced in the Regnitzland . a. in the district of Hof in Upper Franconia . In the Castle of Döhlau are still grave plates seen by family members. They sat in Konradsreuth from 1599 to 1610 . The von Machwitz family is related, among other things, to the Franconian knight families of Lüchau , the Rabensteiners zu Döhlau and the von Sparneck family.
